The Gamble – Part IV

Revised Edition – Part Four

This has been one of the hardest series I have ever written.

I have been sitting on these pages for well over a year, unsure if I should share them. More than once, I almost kept them to myself. But with everything happening in our world today, and after much prayer, I believe the time has come.

This is not just another story. It is one of the most personal battles I have ever written about. It takes me back to one of the darkest moments of my life, when everything seemed to hang in the balance. If you missed part one, two and three, I invite you to go here , here and here and read it before continuing. It will help you understand the journey that led to this moment. My prayer is that, if you see yourself anywhere in these words, you will also see the grace of God waiting to meet you.

“Crazy thing is, out of all life done taught me… Before you get one win you gotta take a thousand losses.”
– Rob Wave –

But wait, this is the reason I became The Gambler and placed my life on the line: I needed and wanted a change. This “Normal Life” was no longer a possibility for me. I was sacrificing myself to either God or Satan in order to flee and end my life. Because I was being destroyed by this life of drinking, lying, stealing, viewing filth, cheating, obsession with girls, idolatry, and depression. These were the things I considered necessities, the things I thought I couldn’t live without, everything that only brought me more issues and hurtful interactions with others. This had to stop. The cycle of despair and the pain I was going through had to come to an end, or it was going to end me. I knew it was time to make a change and I had to take a risk if I was ever going to break out of the norm. This is why I am here; this is why I have become a pawn. Is pawn even a card term? Probably not, but it sounds good, so we are going to go with it and keep it for now. It was a risky move, but it is one that I am willing to take. I knew in my heart that I had to do something drastic if I wanted to make a difference and that is why I am here today.

Psalm 107:4 – Amplified Bible
They wandered in the wilderness in a desert region, and did not find a way to an inhabited city.

As God gathered His people, some came from the wilderness, but He guided them towards the Promised Land.

God is always by our side, loving us and supporting us through the dark times. His love for us is everlasting, and He is always willing to deliver us from our darkness if we simply ask. But why do so many of us remain afraid to ask Him to give us another hit, so that we can remain in this game?

We are back at the card table, Jesus is All-In. He places all His chips forward, calling the devil’s bluff. Satan looks over at me, eyes narrowed, as if he is trying to decide whether he should risk it and take the bet. He knows that if he loses, he will not only be beaten by Jesus, but he will also lose the chance to win my soul. His expression changes slightly as he realizes that the stakes are higher than he originally thought. The tension in the air is perceivable as we all wait to see what he will do.

“Lucifer, you have nothing!” the Lord yells at him in a strong, yet resoundingly confident voice. “You are aware that you will lose!”

Satan, with his air of smug arrogance, pushed all his chips onto the table and challenged Jesus into his game. The Lord did not flinch or show any sign of fear. He didn’t even look down at the devil’s hand, maintaining eye contact with Lucifer as if He was already aware of what was in his hands. I couldn’t help but peer at Lucifer’s cards out of curiosity, and I soon discovered he had nothing; he cracked.

I must remind you that I was unaware of the card game that was being played. Nevertheless, I was confident that my hand was superior to Satan’s and that I would be able to defeat him. In fact, he was so misguided that he believed he had a chance of besting the Lord.

Let us not forget that the devil is a liar! He is conniving and misleading, and his tactics and tricks can be extremely convincing. But we must remember that God is the true source of all good things and that He will not promise us something He is not willing to give. He is the Heavenly Father, and He is full of grace, mercy, and unconditional love. He will always provide us with what we need, and He will do so in abundance. Not only that, but He will also give us wisdom, guidance, and strength to walk in His truth. In the end, He is the only one who can truly deliver us from evil. It is not within His power to bring you hope and leave you with disappointment. He is a loving God, and His plan is to bring joy and peace to those who follow Him.

Ezekiel 33:11 – New International Version
Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel!’

Just so you know, being a pawn is a chess analogy.😉 I never played cards, so I have no idea what the poker equivalent would be? Maybe a Joker or the 2 of spades? As for life being on the line, been there, done that… and He rescued me with a verse that came into my head that I had NO memory of ever having read!! “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13)

Thank you so much Valerie … And Thank you for Reading and for sharing that. 🙏🏼 That is one of the things I wanted The Gambler to make us stop and think about. Our walk with Christ is more than just words. It involves the choices we make, what we surrender, and where we place our trust. Look at the Disciples, what they left behind to follow Jesus.

I hope you’ll Continue following The Gambler, and I Pray the next parts Continue to Bless and Encourage you.

So true that God is willing to give us what we need if we simply ask. He said in James 4:2, we have not because we ask not. He loves us so much. Thanks for sharing, Willie.

This is beautiful Willie, I believe that most of us have been in a same situation. Why once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we try to do the right thing however when things seem to go wrong all at the same place we loose focus and take our eyes off of Christ. But when we are a part of a faithful community who never stops praying for us over time we realize we turn down the wrong road and head back to where it all began on our knees and in God’s word.

Dear Willie, thank you for the immense courage it took to write and share these pages. Allegorizing that dark hour as a high-stakes card table makes the spiritual battle so vivid and real. It takes profound grace to look back at the abyss of addiction and despair and recognize that Jesus had already gone All-In for your soul. Your story is going to be a lifeline for so many who feel lost in the wilderness. Praying for you as you share Part Five! Day by day, His grace wins. 🙂🙏🏻🦁✍🏻🦊🌌✨

This is a great post Willie. I never thought of myself as a gambler, because i hate losing. But after reading The Gambler, I can relate. I have followed this series from the beginning. In many ways, I think every believer has played a few card games with Satan.

Thanks for sharing these personal moments my friend. I look forward to Part 5.

Part Four carries a powerful message of redemption. I particularly appreciate how the card-table metaphor turns a deeply personal struggle into a reflection on faith, choice, and surrender. The contrast between Satan’s deception and Christ’s complete commitment is striking. The message from Ezekiel 33:11—that God desires us to turn from destructive ways and live—is perhaps the heart of the whole chapter. Looking forward to seeing where the journey leads in Part Five.

WILLIE—it just gets better and better! What better way to imagine the spiritual contest going on in another dimension—in the spirit world—than a poker game between our Lord Jesus and old Lucifer! THESE ILLUSTRATIONS are spot on in both intent and humorous portrayal! You go there, Saint Will-!

We do indeed need to go to the Lord when we falter. The enemy will try to guilt and shame us when we falter but may we remember that we can go to the Lord to give us wisdom, guidance, and strength to walk in His truth.
    God Bless you, Willie!

Very profound points in this story, Willie. A story that many of us face or have faced in life, even if with different nuances. The trickery of the darkness is real, but the Hand we hold is Absolute. My takeaway of truth from your post today: “He will also give us wisdom, guidance, and strength to walk in His truth.” May we always keep it in our minds and hearts. Thank you for this important share, my friend. I look forward to more. Sending light and blessings to you and yours, always! ✨🙏

What Ya’ Thinking?

I’m Willie

Hello and Welcome to my Website.
My name is William Torres, but my family and friends call me Willie. It is a pleasure to be here with you today, and I am excited to share my faith journey with you.

My journey has been amazing and fulfilling as a new Christian. I have seen God work in my life in ways I never could have imagined. I have grown closer to my faith and have seen Him work in my life and the lives of those around me. I am truly blessed to call myself a Christian, and I am excited to continue to grow in my faith.

I believe that I have come a long way in life. Over the years, I have worked hard to become a better man, husband to Frances Torres, and father to our children. I have strived to be a good friend and companion to those I have been fortunate to build relationships with. I have learned to appreciate the small moments of joy and fulfillment that come with every human connection.

I began writing stories that I believe were inspired by the Holy Spirit. These stories are my testimonies about the different trials I have gone through, and how the Lord has helped me to overcome them. Through this process, I’ve discovered that I can forgive those I once vowed to never forgive, and in turn, my relationships with them have been restored. They are now a huge blessing and a special part of my life.

I hope that through my writing I can be a source of encouragement to other people in their faith and relationship with the Lord. I pray that those who read my words will be blessed by the Lord and find strength and comfort in His Word.

To be honest, I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am not perfect, but it is in this place of acceptance that I am able to truly worship a God who is. His infinite love brings me joy, strength, and peace, and I am thankful for the privilege of being able to serve Him.

I have also started a Social Media Ministry on Facebook, which I invite you to visit here. Being Crazy For Christ is a platform where I share my journey of faith, and I am also on YouTube – Willie Torres Jr. and I am excited to see all that God will do through it.

This is my hope, and I’m so thankful for it. I’m thankful for the love of Jesus, and I’m thankful for the chance to grow in Him together with you.
