Comfort Or The Cross

When Pain Demands a Decision – Part 1 of 3

As we step into this season of Lent, #Lent26 let’s take a moment to remember the comfort Jesus Christ laid down for us on the Cross.

“Comfort is fleeting. The Cross is real. I must choose not what eases my pain, but what saves my soul”

I won’t be creating images for this series because my hope is that the message speaks louder than the visuals.

To all of you, I pray you have a glorious day. May you enjoy this series, share it with others, and be truly blessed by it... YOU ARE LOVED

There is a question most believers hope they never have to answer.

It is easy to declare faith when life is comfortable. It is easy to follow Christ when pain is manageable and needs are met. But what happens when comfort is taken away? What happens when relief is offered at the cost of your faith?

Comfort or The Cross was born from that question.

This series is not about theory. It is about the heart. It asks what we would choose if following Jesus cost us everything. Safety. Healing. Stability. Even life itself.

The first chapter begins with a simple drive through a familiar neighborhood. What I saw there forced me to confront a deeper truth. Before we can talk about endurance or grace, we must answer one question honestly.

If comfort required denying Christ, what would we choose?

This series begins there.

I remember two winters ago, driving into Chicago for a doctor’s appointment. I was about forty-five minutes from home. I was hoping to receive a cortisone shot to ease the pain from my torn rotator cuff.

After the appointment, and after finally feeling some relief, I decided to drive through my old neighborhood. I did not plan it. It was a pull from deep inside, a quiet longing to see the streets I grew up on. I grew up in Chicago, and since moving closer to the Wisconsin border, I did not get back there often. Time, distance, and life had slowly made those memories feel like a dream. Yet something inside me kept saying, Go back. Just drive.

Something pulled me toward Humboldt Park, what I always called Little Puerto Rico Park. It was a place rich with culture, music, flags, and restaurants. The air there always carried the smell of something delicious. The food was unforgettable, and the memories ran deep. Humboldt Park was more than a location. It was a feeling. It was home.

As I drove around the park, something felt wrong. Something I had never seen before.

The park was filled with tents. They were everywhere. At first, it looked as if people were camping for an event or a festival. But there was no concert. This was not a campground. This was Humboldt Park.

I parked my car and searched for answers. I needed to understand what I was seeing. I typed the question into Google, expecting something ordinary. I expected an explanation that would make sense. What I found stopped me cold.

The tents were there because of a growing unhoused population in Chicago, made up of long-time residents and newly arrived asylum seekers who had nowhere else to go. People were living in tents in the middle of winter. Not because they wanted to. Because they had no other choice.

My first reaction was shock. Then sadness followed. This was a park I loved. But what hurt more was the realization that people were living there through a brutal Chicago winter. Cold. Snow. Wind. No real shelter.

I felt my chest tighten. I felt my breath shorten. I felt a sorrow so heavy it felt like it could crush my ribs. I thought of the children. I thought of the elderly. I thought of the mothers trying to keep their families warm with nothing but hope.

In that moment, I thanked God. I thanked Him for my home. For heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. I thanked Him for my family, my job, and the ability to provide. I thanked Him that I had never been in that situation, and I prayed that I never would be, nor my family or friends.

Then a difficult question settled in my heart.

What would I do if I were living like that?

What would I give up to make it stop?

That question is the reason for this series.

If you lost everything, and someone came to you and said, “I will give you a home. I will give you food, money, comfort, even a palace to live in. You will never suffer again. All you must do is deny God and lay down your cross.” Would you do it?

Right now, it is easy for me to say no. It is easy to say I would choose the cross over comfort. But I also know I do not live in a tent. When it is minus twelve degrees outside, I run to a warm car. I rush into a heated building at work. I get to thaw out.

They do not.

They live in it all day. Every day.

So I wonder. If they were offered a warm room, an apartment, a home, or even a palace, and all they had to do was deny Jesus Christ, never pray again, never worship again, and never pick up their cross, what would they choose?

And now I ask this of believers.

Those of us who pray. Those of us who carry our cross. Those of us who believe that Jesus Christ is Lord. That He is the Son of God. That He walked among us, was crucified, buried, rose again on the third day, and ascended into Heaven.

Think about your own pain. Your losses. Your illness. Your grief.

If someone came to you and said, “I can take it all away. No more pain. No more sorrow. No more disease. All you must do is deny Christ.” Would you choose Comfort, Or would you chooseThe Cross?

To Be Continued…..

I’ll leave you with this thought for now. I’ll be back soon with the next part of this series, going deeper and speaking more clearly and boldly into what Comfort of the Cross truly means.

Stay tuned for Part Two of: When Pain Demands a Decision – From the Comfort or The Cross Series….

Oh WoW… I’ve been sitting with this for a few months, which is why I felt led to write it. I truly believe the Holy Spirit stirred this in my heart. There’s deep conviction in the question.

It’s easy to give the right Christian answer. But we are human. We suffer, we feel, we grieve, we hurt. Until we are actually in that moment, only God truly knows what is in our hearts.

Someone here in the comments mentioned Peter, how he denied Jesus three times, even though he loved Him deeply and was devoted. That reminds us that faith can be real and still struggle under pressure. Yet Jesus restored Peter with grace. That gives me hope.

God sees our weakness, and He meets us there with mercy, not condemnation.

This gave me something to think about. It’s true — we all say we’d stay strong in faith, but real hardship can change how we feel fast. I appreciate how this post pushes us to be honest with ourselves about what we would actually choose. Thanks for sharing this.

Your post brought up a memory of a couple of atheists I knew. I listened to their “logic,” but posed my own questions. The one thing that came back pattern-like is a need for easy answers. A dustbin. A broom. A sweep up on aisle five.

What they could not comprehend was that faith (in my little experience) requires dropping scientific materialism and picking up a reliance on intuitive meditations (call them what you will). In closing, all of these folks I experienced required instant answers that the aforementioned matter-based epistemology gave them. They love to prod with the “fairy tale” arrow, but never turn that arrow around to study the emptiness of their own cup in their hand, holding the latest Starbuck’s brew.

You’re right, Faith often asks us to let go of the need for quick, easy answers and trust God even when we don’t see it all. So much of belief is about quiet reliance on Him, not instant proof.

We humans are a fickle bunch. One day we are waving palm branches and the next we are saying, “Crucify Him.” I don’t think any of us really knows what we will do until we are in a certain situation. Those who can be resolute in their faith have usually been trained over years by the Holy Spirit’s leading through difficult situations. And then there are always outliers, like the thief on the cross who asked Jesus to remember him.

I often think of the words that Jesus tells his disciples:

11 “When they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you are to speak in your defense, or what you are to say; 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

Thank you for this series, Willie. I am looking forward to the next two parts. It is unfortunate that we are seeing more sites like the one you mention at Humboldt Park. The questions you ask here are very good ones.

No matter what direction the world seems to be going, our calling remains the same, to stand firm in Christ.

My prayer is not rooted in fear of systems, but in faithfulness to Jesus. If the day ever comes when we are tested, I pray we would respond with courage, humility, and love.

In Joshua 24:15 it says, As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

That is the posture I want to keep, no matter the climate around us.

Prayer matters more than we often realize. The Lord sees every tear, every tent, every hidden struggle. When we lift up the unhoused and those in need, we are aligning our hearts with His.

In Psalm 34 it says the Lord is close to the brokenhearted. That gives me comfort knowing He is near to them even in the cold.

Wow this was powerful, thought provoking, and I’m sure struck a cord for many. As for myself having experienced homelessness I have had to make that choice. I remember my sister saying to me you don’t have to go through this, you have choices. But I knew that the choices she was reffering too would not please God and would affect my faith journey. So I chose to carry my cross and trust God. Would I make that same choice again, I hope so but as you said it is easy to say you would if you are not going through. When we chose Christ, we chose to carry our cross. My prayer everyday for myself and others is that no matter what happens, we choose The Cross! I most definately will be sharing this in my ministry. God bless you!

Your testimony carries a weight that theory cannot produce. Choosing the Cross when the alternatives are immediate and tangible is not poetic — it is costly. I was especially moved by your honesty in saying, “I hope I would choose the same again.” That humility feels deeply aligned with the heart of this series. Thank you for bringing lived truth into this space.

Here’s my answer Willie. I have been homeless, living under overpasses at night with temps dropping down to below freezing. I have been read my last rights in a land far from anyone I knew or loved. I have ran with the devil in my youth. Through all of this my savior didn’t forsake me but rather showed me that He would guide me into whatever was next. I have cussed God and paid the price dearly. One thing I did have through all of this was the gift of making my own choice and even though I threatened to disown him and give my soul to Satan he was patient with me. If he refused to forsake me after this how could I ever live without him? When I faced this simple truth my life was transformed and now I converse with our Lord many times each day. I don’t need to be in a church to do this as he is in me and so I talk to him on a very personal level. I enjoyed this and am eager to read the next part. God bless you brother and know in your heart that he will provide. 🙏✌️💗

My Brother, reading this brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for Sharing your journey so honestly, it’s powerful and real.

What you said about God never forsaking you, even when you pushed Him away, is exactly why I write these words. That patience, that faithfulness… it’s everything. If He never let go of you, how could any of us live without Him?

I’m so glad you are walking with Him now, talking to Him daily. That personal connection is everything. All Glory goes to God for His Mercy, Patience, and Love in your life.

I believe it’s in a chapter of the third story of this series (not this chapter) where I will share how I went against God and the church. I can’t wait to share that with you, Brother.

I think of all those who have gone before me and chose the cross, taking their suffering for the joy that awaits them. When we remember time here ends and eternity is forever we are strengthened to cling to the cross. What would I do? I hope I would cling to the cross. As long as I could keep the Lord before me, I believe I would … not by my strength but his in me. What would I do? I like what Corrie ten Boom’s father told her about her faith and going into the concentration camps. You do not need a ticket until you get on the train.

I need to keep growing in my faith and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ now, so when and if that train should come I will have the ticket to see me through.

Thank you, dear friend Willie, for bringing us yet another profound text, starting this series. You raise an essential question, and I think the answer varies from person to person, depending on how each spirit reacts to scarcity, loss, and loneliness. For many, only upon reaching the limits of earthly existence do they begin to see and value what truly matters.

We live in challenging times, and we frequently see many exchanging Jesus for a “bowl of lentils,” selling the authenticity of faith for something fleeting. Between temporary comfort and the eternal Cross, the heart is called to choose that which saves. May pain teach us courage, may faith guide us, and may each decision reflect the love of Christ, which never fails.

Thank you, Willie, for reminding us that following Jesus is, in fact, the most sublime poetry of the soul. I wish you a blessed weekend, full of miracles and moments of light! 🙂🙏🏻✨🌌✍🏻🛐📖🦊🦁

And we do need trials to build our faith, but through them He is so close and never lets us go. Our suffering always has a good ending. He tests us at times to see if what we believe. And He is right to do so! It is always us who need to learn His ways.

Thank you for your awesome Posts! You are a blessing always!

Content Whatever the Circumstances Phil. 4:10-14
10-14 I’m glad in God, far happier than you would ever guess—Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally. I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.

The more my understanding grows of who God is the more I am willing to suffer for Him. I never felt like we suffered when we gave it all up for the mission field overseas. God still provided the necessities of life, air to breathe, food to eat, clothes to cover our bodies, and a roof over our head. We own nothing that is worth anything except our car. I see suffering as a road to walk on for Him. Pain can be a blessing when it is used to glorify God. Trust me, I love living in a first world country with anything I want available but I don’t find contentment in the anything though. Less is more and excess is heavy, it does not free us. Great question, one that should make us check our hearts. Blessings

Thank you so much…. And Thank you for Reading and for sharing this. I really mean that.

Philippians 4 says it best. Contentment is not about having more or less. It is about Christ. What you shared about the mission field touched me. To give so much up and still say you did not feel like you suffered says everything about where your heart is.

Less truly can be more when Jesus is enough.

If this post helps us check our hearts, that is God working, not me. All Praise goes to Him who provides and sustains us.

God Bless you, today and always….

What you shared about contentment reframes the entire tension between comfort and the Cross. When Christ Himself becomes enough, comfort loses its power to bargain. Your reflection from the mission field gently reminds us that surrender is not always loss — sometimes it is a different kind of richness. That perspective deepens Willie’s question in a steady and grounded way.

Thanks Livora for your perspective on the question. Living in a third world then a fifth world country for years shaped my view of suffering. America is a first world country and most people view of comfort is everything a first world can provide, plus countless ways to pay for all the comfort. To sit next to a believer in a remote village and hear their prayer requests and their praises is humbling. You are so right about when Christ becomes enough, comfort loses its power to bargain. My husband and I would not trade our discomfort for anything this world has to offer in the face of the gospel going out to the least reached. I do not have to owned anything anymore, it’s never been mine, the devil just wants me to think it is. If its not mine, then giving it up is easy. Trust is the foundation or should be the foundation for anything we do for Christ. He said His yoke is easy, and it was said with death, the cross before Him. He trusted His Father to come through for Him at the right time, not to take suffering away but let it work its way to those around us. You are right again, there is richness that world ways cannot provide which is why everyone just wants more. I am so guilty of it too, I love to decorate where ever I am living and I will think if I just had this one more piece of decor….as if a piece of decor can bring peace. Easy to say He is enough when we have abundance. Blessings on your/

You expressed it beautifully… When Jesus Christ is truly enough, comfort no longer holds control. What feels like loss can become a deeper richness in Him.

I also relate to what you said about giving up what isn’t really ours and trusting Him fully. That’s hard to live out, but it’s where true freedom and richness are found.

Powerful post, Willie. May this #Lent26 season remind us of the comfort Jesus gave up for us. I’ve got a good bit of experience with people experiencing homelessness. It’s sad and heartbreaking. It’s also frustrating and disheartening at times. I think some people would tell you whatever you needed to hear to get what they wanted. Others wouldn’t say anything at all. I do know many that wouldn’t consider denying Christ for a moment, not even if it meant getting off the streets. This post makes me uncomfortable in a way, the more I read it, because it asks uncomfortable questions. And that’s a good thing. Blessings, brother. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

You’re right. Lent should remind us of the comfort Jesus gave up for us (Powerful Words and Something to sit on and think about) That alone puts everything into perspective. And I respect your experience with those facing homelessness. It’s complicated, heartbreaking, and not always simple.

If the questions stirred something, that’s not me. That’s the Lord pressing on our hearts and inviting us to look deeper. He’s the One who convicts and teaches.

The Deed of Love: Presence That Changes Lives

Around us are people who are freezing, without food or shelter, and who are not to blame for their hardships. It is easy to discuss suffering in theory; their reality is immediate and harsh.

Every gesture matters. A warm meal, a blanket, a word of encouragement, or a community project can bring hope and dignity. We cannot remain indifferent when we have the means to make a difference.
Being present for those in need, supporting them with respect and compassion, is an expression of faith, empathy, and responsibility. Our presence can be warmth in the cold, protection in danger, and a reason for hope to endure.

Faith and action are not mutually exclusive; they complement each other. True love is shown through our deeds, and every choice can be a step toward good.

You’re absolutely right. It’s easy to talk about suffering, but much harder to step into it with compassion and action. Faith and action do go together. Love is not just something we say, it’s something we live.

If this series does anything, I pray it moves us closer to that kind of Love.

The fundamental restrictions of the Sinai brit.

The Torah Cohanim laws in ויקרא, encompass various aspects of Jewish life, particularly regarding sexual morality\ערבה, the tohor-tuma holiness Code, where this Book closes with the Blessing/Curse revelation of the k’vanna of the accepted Sinai brit. The concepts of tahor (purity) and tamei (impurity) – spirits within the YaTzir Tov\Ya Tzir Raw within the heart, herein defines the נמשל of the revelation of the Mishkan at Sinai. All Torah commandments subsumed under the revelation of the Torah at Sinai; the greatest Torah commandment of all Torah commandments – the first Sinai commandment. No Torah commandment has greater authority than the 1st Torah commandment at Sinai.

This crucial important understanding כלל, the overall spiritual and communal framework of Moshe anointing the House of Aaron as Moshiach, פרט which defines this כלל. The mitzva of Moshiach no more applicable to Goyim any more than the observance of shabbat. The latter mitzva requires the ability to discern between מלאכה from עבודה. The NT Greek language, for example, does not discern any fundamental or even secondary distinction between these two completely different Hebrew verbs which the Greek NT translates as work. Hence the Xtian Man-God JeZeus did not grasp how to sanctify the time-oriented wisdom commandment NOT shabbat NOR moshiach. Consequently both the NT and Koran exist as false prophet theology which seeks to entice Israel to worship other Gods.

ויקרא יח — כ laws of Cohonim as applicable to Goyim who reject the revelation the Torah at Sinai as Mars lack of water compares to Earth covered by vast majority in water. Goyim outsiders cannot usurp the Hebrew T’NaCH simply by renaming it “Old Testament”. Dishonesty defines the Xtian bible from start to finish; the revelation of Torah judicial common law Sanhedrin mandate radically different from Goyim worship of their Gods who live in the Heavens above.

For example: The Goyim bible knows nothing of the oath sworn brit at Sh’Cem prior to the 7 year war to conquer Canaan. Goyim know nothing of how Torah defines the culture, customs, and practices which shape the identity of the Jewish people. Their ‘I am saved through JeZeus’ reflected in the post WWII ‘born again’ fad – completely oblivious to the church crimes (both Catholic & Protestant) that culminated in the Shoah European guilt. Actions have their consequences. 2000+ years of Xtian war crimes against Humanity by no means limited to the Jews alone.

Xtian faith exists only as mythology, especially after 2000+ years of failed 2nd coming “Good News”. Where was JeZeus during the Shoah? Church has no shame b/c its believers take no responsibility for their criminal behavior from generation to generation to generation — only evil and wickedness. Answer for the crimes of the Inquisition or the forced mass population transfers or the extermination of entire populations in the New World and across the Pacific Islands and Africa. Never has any Xtian country made religious war criminals stand trial. Post WWII the Church opened rat-lines to assist Nazis to flee from standing trial. And Poland initiated pogroms against Jews returning to reclaim title to their properties!

The 7 mitzvot bnai noach, an Aggadah within mesechta Sanhedrin addresses the type of Goy temporary resident known as Ger Toshav. By contrast mesechta Baba Kama addresses the 2nd type of Goy living within the borders of the oath sworn lands “brit” sworn as the eternal inheritance of the chosen Cohen seed of the Avot and only to this chosen seed. Hence the Torah records that Moshe received command not to invade the lands of Esau!

Mesechta Baba Kama refers to the Goyim whom the king of Assyria settled in the captured 10 Tribe kingdom of Samaria/Israel. The Book of Ezra/Nehemiah refers to these people who converted out of ‘fear of lions’ as Shomronim – which the NT calls ‘Samaritans’. The Book of D’varim refers to both types of Goyim in the case of treif meat: its permitted to give this type of flesh as a present to the ger toshav or sell it to the “nacree”. The Talmud, multiple generations of sages, debated the status of the Nacreeim and reached the conclusion which excluded them as having any legal connection to Torah judicial justice laws. Why? The Samaritan forerunners of the Karaim and Xtians – one and all declared themselves the ‘NEW Israel’.

The Rambam held that the 7 mitzvot bnain Noach apply to all Goyim. Aggada makes a drosh/p’shat back to interpret T’NaCH prophetic mussar based upon similar T’NaCH case/din mussar rulings. This prophetic mussar has the power when “woven” into halachic ritual observances to elevate a positive rabbinic mitzva into a Av tohor Torah time-oriented wisdom commandment. Confusing the private opinion by the Rambam, whom both the court of Rabbeinu Yona in Spain and the majority of the Baali Tosafot in France both condemned the Rambam’s statute halachic code and Guide Greek philosophy as a Torah abomination — based upon the dedication of the lights of Hanukkah wherein the P’rushim dedicated the korban of lights to only interpret the Written Torah with the logic of the Oral Torah. Greek deductive logic the blessing on Hanukkah recalls that the Greeks sought to cause Israel to forget the (Oral) Torah.

Assimilated Rambam from Spain worships the Universal God theologies which both the NT and Koran espouse. No Sanhedrin Court has jurisdiction to judge Capital Crimes cases outside the borders of the Torah defined oath sworn land inheritance of Canaan and as further defined within the expanded language of the Torah and clarified by Moshe Rabbeinu which requires expanded National territories include small Sanhedrin cities of refuge Capital Crimes courtrooms. Hence the Rambam notion of Universal 7 mitzvot applicable to all Goyim – an utter narishkeit as the NT dictate on the mitzva of Moshiach.

The Rambam “world to come” as pie in the sky as the NT false messiah. Goyim not under Torah law. Therefore just as Americans do not determine Russian strategic interests to invade a Ukraine threatening to join NATO – especially after Napoleon and Hitler both invaded Russia through the flat plains of the Ukraine – so too Goyim, not under the law, do not determine Torah commandments, specifically in the NT case – the commandment of Moshiach.

Torah common law stands the vision of “life in the word to come” based upon the Torah oath brit cut between the pieces wherein childless Avram swore and oath and in turn his local god El Shaddai swore an oath back to Avram. This concept of brit – totally alien to the Torah. Secondary sources like the NT or Koran do not supersede the Torah; anymore that Goyim who reject the Torah can qualify as ger tzeddik converts. The Pauline ‘graphed onto’ narishkeit equal to the Koran declaration of Yishmael bound upon the altar at the Akadah.

The seven Noahide laws are presented in Jewish sources as a universal moral code binding on all humanity (the “descendants of Noah”), independent of the Land of Israel or the Sanhedrin’s geographic jurisdiction for Jewish capital cases. False. Violation of any of these 7 laws by a ger toshav constitutes as a Capital Crime Case that only the Sanhedrin courts can adjudicate. One of the 7 mitzvot requires gere toshav to establish courts of law. The Talmud does not mandate any court ger toshav in Judea the authority to adjudicate any Capital Crime case. Rather ger toshav courts limited to Torts damages courts like Jewish Torts courts in g’lut.

Sanhedrin Capital Crimes courts inclusive of Small Sanhedrin courts in all cities of refuge as well as the Great Sanhedrin Court of 71, define the Torah mandated Federal Sanhedrin common law court system. The NaCree (language of the Torah)/Canaani (language of Baba Kama) refers strictly and only to despised refugee populations/Shomronim\Samaritans.

No Sanhedrin court can put a “Bnai Noach” living in London or Paris or Berlin or Moscow to death. Violation of any of the 7 mitzvot therefore strictly and only apply to gere toshav living within the judicial domain of Sanhedrin Capital Crime courtrooms. Makkot 9a illustrates distinctions: a ger toshav who unintentionally kills another ger toshav is exiled (treated somewhat like a Jew), while killing a Jew leads to execution without exile—handled under Jewish judicial frameworks in the Land. Only Sanhedrin court justices have the Torah mandate to judge and try Capital Crimes Cases. The courts of Gere Toshav temporary residents do not have greater authority than Jewish Torts courts within the borders of Judea.

The small Sanhedrin courts function as lower courts which permits appeal to the two Great Sanhedrin courts held within the Court of Hewn State within the Temple. Secondary sources of Talmudic scholarship made after the sealing of the T’NaCH, Mishna, Gemara, and Siddur exist as opinions. These secondary sources cannot over-ride nor negate sealed Primary sources. The Rambam statute halachic codes does just that, it equates his halachic posok rulings as if they stood upon their own merit. By stark and obvious contrast the Gemara halachot serve as precedent to interpret the language of the Mishna which that Gemara comments upon and nothing more. Herein separates T’NaCH\Talmudic common law from Roman & Rambam statute law.

Aggada does not determine halacha – except in the opinion of the Rambam. Quoting Genesis 9:9–17 does not amount to squat. It amounts to a dream which has no interpretation; a letter never opened and read. Sanhedrin 56a–57a addresses Gere Toshav – based upon the Book of D’varim which differentiates two types of Goyim: Ger Toshav vs. NaCreeim. The Talmud restricted to these to classifications of Goyim within the borders of the Oath sworn lands.

Sanhedrin 56–60, which treats these laws as pre‑Sinaitic and universal? Post Sinai revelation the Torah no longer perceives Torah as Universal/in the heavens above. תורה לא בשמים היא – represents a key fundamental of the revelation and acceptance by Israel of the Torah. The Book of בראשית does not over-ride the revelation of the Torah at Sinai, any more than can post sealing of the Sha’s Bavli Reshonim scholars can add to or subtract from the sealed Talmud.

Only Israel accepts the revelation of the Torah at Sinai – to this very day. Torah common law post Reshonim opinions do not modify except to the limitations of the needs of that particular generations. Clearly the Dark Age social political and societal anarchy and chaos do not prevail today in any even near comparison to the darkest Ages of Xtian Europe under the Church Inquisition dictatorships.

Pre-Sinaitic Universal ethics defines the 2nd Sinai commandment. Therefore any attempt to interpret 7 mitzvot bnai noach out of its Talmudic restriction which limits it to gere toshav temporary residents invalidates the Torah precedent in D’varim which separates giving treif meats as a gift vs selling this treif flesh to a Na’cree. The Baali Tosafot common law commentary on Avodah Zarah 64b – ger toshav exists only when Yovel observed supports this strong restriction against learning 7 mitzvot as Universal av tuma avoda zara commandments. The Yovel only applies to produce grown within the borders of the oath sworn lands.

The revelation of the Torah at Sinai – mandates the Federal Sanhedrin Court system based upon the Torah serving as the Constitution of the Republic. Just as the Constitution of the US does not spread its Bill of Rights to Goyim living in foreign lands so too the Torah as the Constitution of the Cohen 12 Tribe Republic limited only to the borders of the oath sworn lands of this Republic. Therefore any post sealing of the Sha’s Bavli by Reshonim who seek to pervert the 1st Sinai revelation of the Name to some Universal God – like as expressed in the Av tuma avoda zara of both Xtianity and Islam – through ruling that the 7 mitzvot bnai noach apply Universally to all Goyim, such false instruction directly compares to av tuma false prophesy.

Yet the church never accepted the authority of the Oral Torah codified in the Talmud and mesechta Sanhedrin in particular! Halacha only applicable to Jews not Goyim. Both the Church and Mosque developed their own unique religious codes of theological creed belief systems. Religion never has anything to do with the Sinai brit obligation to rule the oath sworn Cohen inheritance lands sworn to the Avot with judicial common law court room legislative review based upon Torah Constitutional mandate. Any attempt by Shomronim, Tzeddukim, Karaim, Xtians or Muslims to superimpose religious theology belief system as a replacement theology qualifies as the Torah definition of av tuma false prophets who seek to persuade Jews to worship other Gods.

Willie, what struck me most is how this question moved from a winter drive to something far deeper than theory. The stories shared here — especially from those who have walked through homelessness and hardship — remind us that this is not a hypothetical crossroad. For some, it has already been lived. That gives your words weight beyond reflection.

What stays with me, though, is how subtle comfort can be. Sometimes it is not offered as a palace in exchange for denying Christ, but as small compromises that slowly quiet conviction. The Cross is not only chosen in extreme moments of persecution, but in the quiet, daily surrender that no one else sees. Your question lingers because it invites us to examine not only what we would do in crisis — but how we are already choosing in ordinary days.

Grateful for the courage and honesty in this beginning of the series.

Livora, Thank you again for taking the time to Read and Share your Heart here.

What you said about comfort being subtle is so true. It is not always some big dramatic offer. Sometimes it is those small compromises, those quiet moments where conviction gets softer if we are not careful. That really stayed with me as I read your words.

You are right. For some, this is not a theory. It is a lived reality. That alone humbles me. I give God all the Glory because He is the One who presses these questions into our hearts. He is the One who calls us deeper, even in the ordinary days when no one else sees the surrender.

The Cross is not just a one time decision. It is daily. It is choosing Him again and again, in public and in private. I am grateful that the Lord would use something as simple as a winter drive to stir something eternal.

Thank you again for your thoughtful and honest response and comment.

May God Continue to Bless you, guide you, and strengthen you as you walk closely with Him.

      All Glory belongs to Him.

We have a few of these “tent cities” in Canada too and it’s heartbreaking to see. That’s a tough question in terms of how I would respond as it all depends on the circumstance. But I like to think that no matter what, I’ll always have hope and my faith.

Thank you for Reading and sharing this. It really is heartbreaking to see, whether here or in Canada. No one should have to live like that.

That is the whole reason for this. To make us think. I honestly feel the same way you do. It is easy for me to say right now that I would always choose The Cross. But what if it meant my life, or the life of someone I love? And for those in the tents, facing bitter cold every day, hunger, I truly do not know. It is a hard question.

I appreciate your honesty in saying it depends on the circumstance, yet still holding onto Hope and Faith. That matters.

I hope you stick around for the rest of this series and the following chapters.

My prayer is that God uses it to search all of our hearts. All Glory belongs to Him.

God Bless You and Your family, today and always…

I have known times with little to no money and am very grateful for my gifts. I give monthly to the food pantry, but I know this does little for those who live on the street. Thank you for this insightful, thoughtful post, Willie. We who have, want more, different but should rather be thankful and giving.

Thank you Mary so much for Reading and for Sharing your heart so honestly. It means a lot that you took the time to Comment.

I respect what you said about giving to the food pantry. Please do not ever think it does little. God sees every act of generosity, even the ones that feel small to us. He multiplies what we place in His hands.

You are right. Those of us who have can still find ourselves wanting more. That conviction is something the Lord continues to work on in me too. If this post stirred gratitude in any way, that is Him, not me.

All Glory and Praise belong to God, who gives us both the gifts and the desire to give.

Excellent food for thought. When it is cold, my heart turns to those who are unhoused. We have very few in Boise, and those that are usually have chosen to go to the shelters. What an inhumane way to live in our culture. It could happen to any one of us.

You’re right. Faith is not something that comes lightly, and once the Lord roots it deep in us, it is not something we can easily trade away. That is His work in our hearts.

Having walked the way of the cross for some time now, I am beginning to understand sacrifice..the word says we are taught obedience in the things we suffer. Choosing Christ when all is roses, is quiet easy as you said. Its a hard question to answer. If I never knew Jesus and who he has been to me all my life, then denying the cross in order to save myself or my family is an easy decision.
But thankfully, I have been with Jesus for a long time. Being a disciple means I follow him wherever he leads. If our lord was tempted with the favor of the world, so would we. If he was tempted with the seduction of power, so would we. And if the whip, imprisonment and the cross was his, its highly likely it will be ours as well.
Peter, though he denied Jesus, found grace and mercy renewed at Calvary. There was no turning back for him either.
A great post, Willie. Much to consider.
I am sorry that so many people have to endure such hardships in such a wealthy country.
    Blessings sir.

Thank you so much for Visiting, Reading and for writing this with such depth. I can tell this comes from someone who has walked with the Lord for a long time.

You said it well. Obedience learned through suffering is different than obedience learned in comfort. It shapes us. And you are right, if our Lord was tempted, we will be too. None of us are above that.

I’m grateful for the reminder about Peter. Even in failure, there was grace. That gives me hope for all of us.

And yes, it is heartbreaking to see so much hardship in a wealthy country. It humbles me.

If this post gives us something to truly consider, that is God working, not me. All Glory belongs to Him who calls us, teaches us, and restores us.

Blessings to you. Hope you come back for Part Two….

Deep Post Willie TJ. I’m thinking how Jesus was literally someone who napped under a tree. Where’d He fit in our lives now? Both sides of the coin need Him.

I met a v v poor lady at church once, and the worship, the joy she had within her was something angels stood back to watch I felt.

The divides are getting wider, and also,

Evil more pointed in dividing humans. I see this in churches where the poor mayn’t be allowed in. Then again, the level of manipulation among some lesser privileged folks, scare the rest.

I’m steadily finding Comfort only in the Cross. Thank you for your words Willie, they come from such a sensitive heart. I hit a low this evening after a series of happenings that made me ask questions. And He was saying all along, “Peace, My Peace that surpasses humans…” 😊

Praying His kind of life giving energy that’ll help us press on🌿✝️🌱

Thank you for reminding me of all the things I so easily take for granted and what people who are unhoused have to bear. It’s something I’d rather not think about, but now, I’m taking some time to imagine what it would be to live in a tent in freezing temperatures and to think about Jesus living outdoors, sleeping on the ground. This is a good topic for going deeper during lent… or any time.

It is uncomfortable to imagine living in a tent in freezing temperatures. When I saw it, I could not shake it. And thinking about Jesus having no place to lay His head brings it even closer to home.

ok Willie! I love this and it causes all of us to dig deep! I copied down in my journal what you said: “I must choose not what eases my pain, but what saves my soul.” I can relate because when I was diagnosed with cancer my “come to JESUS moment” was a realization that even if HE chose to not remove the cancer from my body, all I really cared about was that I had my SAVIOR. I knew down deep that HE was right there with me and that I was loved no matter the outcome. So yes, what would I chose? JESUS every time over comfort. Things can and will get hard and I pray HE gives me the courage and the faithfulness to hold HIM even tighter than my very own life! And YOU TOO, ARE LOVED!

Brother, this has been rolling around in my head for two weeks… lots of introspection and thinking. I’m finally ready to respond, but I see most of my points have already been covered 😂

It does raise profound questions, though. Jesus himself warned that we’d need to be ready to face all that he did and more… family members betraying one another, dragged where we don’t wanna go (death or imprisonment). Yes, Peter did deny him three times and everybody fled… and only John was there at the crucifixion… but that was before the coming of the Holy Spirit. And as someone pointed out, we’re not to worry about what to say if/when the time comes bc the words will be supplied.

But if that time comes…and it very well may… would I have the courage to face it head on? I’d like to think so… but while the spirit is willing, the flesh is weak and if someone’s pointing a gun to my daughter’s head, I don’t know what I would do in that split second.

Or even more subtly… would someone have the courage to post a picture of Christ in their cubicle and risk the ridicule or whispered remarks of co-workers? Or say grace in a restaurant and draw stares?

The other side of this coin is what positive thing would move a person to deny Christ? Like the third temptation of Christ, the whole world…power? Money? I know that would be a hard no for me.

    Great series, my friend… 🙏❤️

These kinds of questions really make us examine our own hearts and faith. I pray that if the moment ever comes, God will give us the strength and courage we need. Until then, the daily choice to quietly stand for Christ is its own kind of faithfulness.

This is a stark and harsh picture, Willie. Being originally from Chicago, I can’t imagine how the view of all those tents for the disenfranchised, the refugees, those who had no home and no place to go, affected you as you pondered your own blessings. I think of the things we complain about–true first world problems, because we do have homes and food and community. Thanks for writing this–it’s a lot to think about, my friend. An eye opener.

I’m Willie

Hello and Welcome to my Website.
My name is William Torres, but my family and friends call me Willie. It is a pleasure to be here with you today, and I am excited to share my faith journey with you.

My journey has been amazing and fulfilling as a new Christian. I have seen God work in my life in ways I never could have imagined. I have grown closer to my faith and have seen Him work in my life and the lives of those around me. I am truly blessed to call myself a Christian, and I am excited to continue to grow in my faith.

I believe that I have come a long way in life. Over the years, I have worked hard to become a better man, husband to Frances Torres, and father to our children. I have strived to be a good friend and companion to those I have been fortunate to build relationships with. I have learned to appreciate the small moments of joy and fulfillment that come with every human connection.

I began writing stories that I believe were inspired by the Holy Spirit. These stories are my testimonies about the different trials I have gone through, and how the Lord has helped me to overcome them. Through this process, I’ve discovered that I can forgive those I once vowed to never forgive, and in turn, my relationships with them have been restored. They are now a huge blessing and a special part of my life.

I hope that through my writing I can be a source of encouragement to other people in their faith and relationship with the Lord. I pray that those who read my words will be blessed by the Lord and find strength and comfort in His Word.

To be honest, I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am not perfect, but it is in this place of acceptance that I am able to truly worship a God who is. His infinite love brings me joy, strength, and peace, and I am thankful for the privilege of being able to serve Him.

I have also started a Social Media Ministry on Facebook, which I invite you to visit here. Being Crazy For Christ is a platform where I share my journey of faith, and I am also on YouTube – Willie Torres Jr. and I am excited to see all that God will do through it.

This is my hope, and I’m so thankful for it. I’m thankful for the love of Jesus, and I’m thankful for the chance to grow in Him together with you.

You Are Loved
