Comfort or The Cross -2

When Pain Demands a Decision – Part 2 of 3

Welcome to Part Two of Chapter One in the Comfort or The Cross series.

If you missed Part One, I encourage you to go back and read it first so you can fully follow this journey of the mind and heart as we wrestle with the question: are we choosing comfort, or the Cross?

You can find the first part of this chapter and series here.

As we step into this season of Lent, #Lent26 let’s take a moment to remember the comfort Jesus Christ laid down for us on the Cross.

“Comfort is fleeting. The Cross is real. I must choose not what eases my pain, but what saves my soul”

I won’t be creating images for this series because my hope is that the message speaks louder than the visuals.

To all of you, I pray you have a glorious day. May you enjoy this series, share it with others, and be truly blessed by it... YOU ARE LOVED

There is a question most believers hope they never have to answer.

It is easy to declare faith when life is comfortable. It is easy to follow Christ when pain is manageable and needs are met. But what happens when comfort is taken away? What happens when relief is offered at the cost of your faith?

Comfort or The Cross was born from that question.

This series is not about theory. It is about the heart. It asks what we would choose if following Jesus cost us everything. Safety. Healing. Stability. Even life itself.

The first chapter begins with a simple drive through a familiar neighborhood. What I saw there forced me to confront a deeper truth. Before we can talk about endurance or grace, we must answer one question honestly.

If comfort required denying Christ, what would we choose?

Part 2

Pain strips us down to truth. There may come a moment when pain demands a choice. Relief or Christ. Comfort or the Cross.

If denying Jesus meant instant relief, would you call it mercy or betrayal?

Jesus never promised comfort without cost. He said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.” Matthew 16:24

The Cross was not a symbol of relief. It was and is a symbol of suffering, surrender, and obedience.

This is not a new question. The early church lived it. They were beaten, imprisoned, and killed, not because they lacked faith, but because they refused to deny it.

“They departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His Name.” Acts 5:41

They were offered safety, freedom, and life itself in exchange for silence or denial. Yet Scripture tells us they endured.

“Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.” Hebrews 11:35

The early believers faced pain that tested every part of their faith. They were beaten, imprisoned, even killed for the sake of Christ, yet they did not turn away.

Their suffering was public and obvious.

Mine is quieter and slower, but it is no less real.

I was born with a deformity on my right ear, a crooked jaw when I speak, a head that leans to one side, a speech impediment, and a learning disorder. This was only the beginning.

A major spinal surgery left me worse than before. I have an allergy to anesthesia, making future surgeries dangerous. Pain from a torn rotator cuff has stolen much from me, but I have avoided surgery because being put under could cost my life. A pinched nerve on my left side brings so much pain it keeps me awake. I have not slept more than five hours in a night for over six years.

Then came a minor stroke in April of this past year. And a couple months ago, I woke up to constant pressure to urinate, only to discover I had been peeing blood all night.

Pain has a way of making desperate offers sound reasonable.

So I ask again: do I take whatever is offered, whatever seems to take the weight off for now, instead of enduring the Cross and trusting Christ?

To Be Continued…..

I’ll leave you with this for now. I’ll be back soon with the last part of this series, going deeper and speaking more clearly and boldly into what Comfort of the Cross truly means.

Stay tuned for the finale of: When Pain Demands a Decision – From the Comfort or The Cross Series….

This is a powerful and convicting reflection on the cost of true discipleship. The contrast between seeking comfort and embracing the Cross is clearly and thoughtfully presented. It serves as a compelling affirmation that authentic faith often requires sacrifice, perseverance, and trust beyond our immediate circumstances.👍

hey brother, i have experienced my own share of pain but nothing as sustained and relentless as the cross that you carry. if I have, in any way, experienced that type of pain it was a matter of duration – some staying longer than others. whatever remains is a still a sharp ache but I’m used to it.

if there is something offered that can alleviate your pain without you having to sell your soul, my wish is for you to take it. I believe that the God of Scriptures can understand and would be more than willing to facilitate especially for you. You have been a faithful attendant to His word and as much as the His word was tough to guide Moses and Abraham, I can see those same words guiding you to his human instruments of purpose that can alleviate your ailments.

Be blessed Willie, my best regards to your family. Mike

There is absolutely no way I can type anything that can help you. Why? You already have a path you have chosen. You walk it with absolute certainty. This is a rare event in today’s world.

You wrote: “So I ask again: do I take whatever is offered, whatever seems to take the weight off for now, instead of enduring the Cross and trusting Christ?” Your question, in my small opinion, divides those who take the easy path from those who take the path of ardent faith. The former walkers drift like zombies in their TikTok dreams; however, the latter walk a path only found by those who can see beyond seeing.

    Keep on walking, my friend.
    I know you will.

I’m Willie

Hello and Welcome to my Website.
My name is William Torres, but my family and friends call me Willie. It is a pleasure to be here with you today, and I am excited to share my faith journey with you.

My journey has been amazing and fulfilling as a new Christian. I have seen God work in my life in ways I never could have imagined. I have grown closer to my faith and have seen Him work in my life and the lives of those around me. I am truly blessed to call myself a Christian, and I am excited to continue to grow in my faith.

I believe that I have come a long way in life. Over the years, I have worked hard to become a better man, husband to Frances Torres, and father to our children. I have strived to be a good friend and companion to those I have been fortunate to build relationships with. I have learned to appreciate the small moments of joy and fulfillment that come with every human connection.

I began writing stories that I believe were inspired by the Holy Spirit. These stories are my testimonies about the different trials I have gone through, and how the Lord has helped me to overcome them. Through this process, I’ve discovered that I can forgive those I once vowed to never forgive, and in turn, my relationships with them have been restored. They are now a huge blessing and a special part of my life.

I hope that through my writing I can be a source of encouragement to other people in their faith and relationship with the Lord. I pray that those who read my words will be blessed by the Lord and find strength and comfort in His Word.

To be honest, I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am not perfect, but it is in this place of acceptance that I am able to truly worship a God who is. His infinite love brings me joy, strength, and peace, and I am thankful for the privilege of being able to serve Him.

I have also started a Social Media Ministry on Facebook, which I invite you to visit here. Being Crazy For Christ is a platform where I share my journey of faith, and I am also on YouTube – Willie Torres Jr. and I am excited to see all that God will do through it.

This is my hope, and I’m so thankful for it. I’m thankful for the love of Jesus, and I’m thankful for the chance to grow in Him together with you.

You Are Loved
