Oh ! So You Don’t Like Me ?

Finding Peace in God’s Acceptance

I’ve never really had a deep, lifelong friendship. I have people I call friends, some who even feel like brothers, but not the kind of friend I grew up with, someone who’s been there through every high and low, someone I still feel inseparable from. I don’t have that friend who’d just drop by, raid my fridge for a Krakus ham and Munster cheese sandwich, or suggest making fried chicken with arroz con gandules. Who am I kidding?

Proverbs 18:24:
“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

I’ve lost many so-called “friends” over the years, and in most cases, I still don’t understand why. Why did we lose touch? Why did we stop communicating? Why won’t you even respond to my comments on your Facebook posts while interacting with everyone else? With friends like these, who needs enemies?

Psalm 55:12-14:
“If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God, as we walked about among the worshipers.”

Did I offend you? Did my Christian posts, my godly conversations, and my constant encouragement, reminding you that You Are Loved, Blessed, and called to be a blessing, bother you?

John 15:18-19:
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.”

I’ve come to realize that sometimes, people pull away not because of anything we’ve done but because of what we represent. The phrase, “Some people will never like you because your spirit irritates their demons,” speaks to this reality. The light of Christ in us can make others uncomfortable, not because we are trying to condemn them, but because it convicts them in ways they may not understand or want to face.

2 Corinthians 2:15-16:
“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one, we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?”

Sometimes, our faith, our joy, or even our determination to walk in God’s truth can highlight insecurities in others. When someone is struggling with self-doubt or sin, encountering someone who stands firm in their identity in Christ can feel threatening. Our presence can serve as a mirror, reflecting what they either desire or despise within themselves.

2 Corinthians 2:15-16 (NIV):
“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life.”

There are also times when people simply resist the light because they are comfortable in darkness. Scripture reminds us in John 3:19, “Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” If we carry the presence of God, it’s only natural that some will push us away, not because of who we are, but because of the One we belong to.

Matthew 10:22 (NIV):
“You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

I won’t pretend it doesn’t hurt. Losing friendships, especially when you don’t understand why, can leave a wound. But Jesus Himself experienced this betrayal, rejection, abandonment. And yet, He remained faithful. That’s my calling too. Instead of dwelling on who walked away, I’ll focus on the One who will never leave me nor forsake me.

Hebrews 13:5 (NIV):
“God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”

At the end of the day, true friendship is found in Christ. And if He places godly friends in my life who truly walk this journey with me, I’ll be grateful. But if not, I know that I am never alone.

Psalm 73:25-26 (NIV):
“Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

As we walk this journey of faith, we may face loneliness and loss of family and friendships, but we can take comfort in the constant presence of Christ. He is our truest and most faithful friend, and we are never abandoned by Him. Don’t let loneliness consume you—lean into His love, for in Him, we find the greatest companionship and comfort.

You Are Loved.

Willie, thank you for sharing such an honest and powerful reflection. Your words hit home for me, especially the part about finding peace in God’s acceptance when relationships with other people fail. It is true that friendships can be complicated, and losing one can leave you with a lot of questions and pain. But your point of view on how our faith can sometimes show other people’s fears or beliefs is so wise. It reminds us that our identity in Christ stays the same, even when other people turn away.

Friendships can be tough, and the pain of losing them is real, but God’s acceptance never wavers. I’m grateful that He gives us Peace even when relationships fall apart. Praying that His truth continues to bring you strength and encouragement.

Be Blessed my Brother and Continue to be a Blessing.

Someone would raid your fridge for a Krakus ham? And, Willie, what would a Krakus ham be doing in your fridge? I’ll chalk it up to developing a palate like when we were kids and thought that snack cakes were the dream. Yes, losing friends over time does hurt. It cheapens memories and takes the warmth out of the heartfelt emotions; and, eventually we must make hard decisions and cut ties. It can be disappointing. Ultimately, there is something greater than what we see on the surface. 💕

Thank you so much for Reading and Commenting. I take it you are not a fan of Krakus Ham (lol).

I love your perspective, it’s true, some things change, but there’s always something deeper to hold onto. Be Blessed and Be a Blessing.

I must say that I am truly blessed. I do have 2 friends that we have been together now for over 35 years and counting. One just visited me this past December. There is such a comfort level with that due to the fact that our GOD has always been in the middle of the relationship. Yes I have those that you mentioned here…….the ones who fall away after time. I don’t know why that happens…….but GOD does. HE knows our hearts and just what we need. But all in all, we learn through this process that we can be as close to our Savior as we need and want. Abide in HIM and HE will abide in you. Our amazing GOD is with you and in you………all the time! YOU ARE LOVED WILLIE!

Maxine, your words are such a blessing. I truly admire the lasting friendship you have, built on such strong faith. It’s so comforting to know that God has always been at the center of your relationships. Even with the ones who drift away, I trust that He knows what’s best. I agree, the closer we draw to Him, the more we feel His love and presence.

Encouraging post, Willie! I am such an introvert that I can go a long time without socializing and this can make friendships harder, friendships take effort on both sides. But what I have found is people just get busy dealing with their own stuff and reconnecting is possible!

I get that, but this is more than just friends, it’s family too. It’s not about being too busy; it’s more about ignorance. Some people just choose to avoid or ignore you. The worst part about social media is seeing when someone’s online and commenting. If I share something and you don’t comment, that’s fine, but when I see you engaging with posts before and after mine, it feels rude and inconsiderate. I don’t expect comments on everything, but when this pattern continues for years, I can’t help but feel like something’s off, and that our bond has faded.

I don’t even care anymore; people can do what they want and move on if that’s their choice. I have the people in my life who matter most. What bothers me is that if you feel I should be excluded, at least have the courage to tell me why. Did I do something to offend you? Well, it is what it is. Like a door closing, another one will open. God has already placed the people who matter most in my life, and every day, He continues to bring more who appreciate me, encourage me to grow, and remind me to stay strong. Those are the people I cherish and am truly grateful for. As for the others, the welcome mat is gone, and the exit sign is lit.

Willie, I have been in this place. Where everyone is gone, it was me and the Lord and I was like Paul in Arabia. Lean into the Lord like I know you are doing. He is pruning and refining. Oh I know it hurts, it burns, it stings, but the outcome, the growing closer to Christ and being conformed to His likeness is completely worth it. Keep running to Jesus, keep admitting your feelings and not bottling them up for them to turn to rage and/or bitterness. Your light is shining in this dark world. Even if you don’t see it, others do. May the Lord continue to send people to encourage you. May the Lord bless you Willie for all the ways that you bless and encourage others. 🙏🤗🫶

Your prayers and encouragement mean the world to me.

I’ll keep running to Jesus, trusting that He’s working in all things. Thank you for being such a light in my life.

Once again, Willie surprises us with his reflections on social behavior, our interactions, and how the stance of those who live their values and principles can bother those around them. You touched on an extremely important point, especially with so much polarization and discussions about trivial matters that leave people alienated and completely distant from themselves. For this reason, when they have to share the same space with people who are not on the same wavelength, they feel uncomfortable, attack, offend, ignore, or simply walk away. It is natural, although often painful, coming from family members and people we once considered friends. In this biblical passage from John 15:18-19 you highlight this well. Thank you for sharing these very important reflections with us. I wish you a blessed week! 🙂🙌🏻✨✍🏻🌌🪷

Your points are very true and I think it’s possibly better that those who don’t tolerate your faith, are gone until they realize that they have this same possibility to have this better life you have chosen. Turn your back to all negative things because why take anymore these negative suggestions this world tries to put in our heads, we have better and we are free. Very good post, stay cool 👍😊

I’m Willie

Hello and Welcome to my Website.
My name is William Torres, but my family and friends call me Willie. It is a pleasure to be here with you today, and I am excited to share my faith journey with you.

My journey has been amazing and fulfilling as a new Christian. I have seen God work in my life in ways I never could have imagined. I have grown closer to my faith and have seen Him work in my life and the lives of those around me. I am truly blessed to call myself a Christian, and I am excited to continue to grow in my faith.

I believe that I have come a long way in life. Over the years, I have worked hard to become a better man, husband to Frances Torres, and father to our children. I have strived to be a good friend and companion to those I have been fortunate to build relationships with. I have learned to appreciate the small moments of joy and fulfillment that come with every human connection.

I began writing stories that I believe were inspired by the Holy Spirit. These stories are my testimonies about the different trials I have gone through, and how the Lord has helped me to overcome them. Through this process, I’ve discovered that I can forgive those I once vowed to never forgive, and in turn, my relationships with them have been restored. They are now a huge blessing and a special part of my life.

I hope that through my writing I can be a source of encouragement to other people in their faith and relationship with the Lord. I pray that those who read my words will be blessed by the Lord and find strength and comfort in His Word.

To be honest, I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am not perfect, but it is in this place of acceptance that I am able to truly worship a God who is. His infinite love brings me joy, strength, and peace, and I am thankful for the privilege of being able to serve Him.

I have also started a Social Media Ministry on Facebook, which I invite you to visit here. Being Crazy For Christ is a platform where I share my journey of faith, and I am also on YouTube – Willie Torres Jr. and I am excited to see all that God will do through it.

This is my hope, and I’m so thankful for it. I’m thankful for the love of Jesus, and I’m thankful for the chance to grow in Him together with you.

You Are Loved
