Comfort Or The Cross – End

When Pain Demands a Decision – Part 3 of 3

As we step into this season of Lent, #Lent26 let’s take a moment to remember the comfort Jesus Christ laid down for us on the Cross.

“Comfort is fleeting. The Cross is real. I must choose not what eases my pain, but what saves my soul”

I won’t be creating images for this series because my hope is that the message speaks louder than the visuals.

To all of you, I pray you have a glorious day. May you enjoy this series, share it with others, and be truly blessed by it... If this is your first time reading the series, you might want to start at the beginning to fully follow the story….. Part one and Part Two ….

YOU ARE LOVED

There is a question most believers hope they never have to answer.

It is easy to declare faith when life is comfortable. It is easy to follow Christ when pain is manageable and needs are met. But what happens when comfort is taken away? What happens when relief is offered at the cost of your faith?

Comfort or The Cross was born from that question.

This series is not about theory. It is about the heart. It asks what we would choose if following Jesus cost us everything. Safety. Healing. Stability. Even life itself.

The first chapter begins with a simple drive through a familiar neighborhood. What I saw there forced me to confront a deeper truth. Before we can talk about endurance or grace, we must answer one question honestly.

If comfort required denying Christ, what would we choose?

This series continues here…

When does this end? How do I end this pain, this suffering, this agony?

What can I do? I will do anything.

And then we come back to the question.

Comfort or the Cross?

Will I endure the pain and suffering, believing that where I am weak, Jesus is my strength? If I suffer, I suffer for Jesus Christ, trusting that He is my healer, and I lay my faith and my life in His hands, knowing that in His time, I will be healed.

What if choosing comfort cost me my promise of eternal life?

What if laying down the Cross cost me my life in Christ?

Will I lay down my Cross, or will I pick it up again and continue to follow Him?

For He said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

And I hold on to this truth: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” – Psalm 34:19

And so I stand at the crossroads, holding my Cross, choosing Him, and trusting that His strength will carry me through every trial. I know the road will not be easy. Pain will come. Sorrow will press. Trials will test every part of my faith. But I will not let go.

I hold my Cross because it is the proof that I belong to Christ. I carry it because His grace carries me. I stand in the power of His love, not my own.

And now I ask you to pause and consider. When your life feels unbearable, when your body, your mind, or your heart is exhausted, what will you choose?

Will you seek Comfort that fades, or will you lift the Cross and walk in the strength that only Jesus provides?

Comfort or the Cross?

The choice is yours.

When Pain Demands a Decision – From the Comfort or The Cross Series….

There has been many times that I have said these words while I have preach. It is easy to praise God when we are on the mountain top when life is going well but if we can also praise God in the valley when we can’t see anything else that is when we are walking by faith. With having a daughter who is chronically ill and being in a abusive marriage I have had many days in the pit of the valley it is there I reached out to our Lord and where I know that others are praying for me as well.

Both me and my daughters are still struggling at the moment my ex-husband is bringing me back to court. The reason is I was supposed to either put the house I have lived in since 1999 up for sale or refinance. However I can’t move I can’t afford it and I can’t refinance due to my income but I have been paying the mortgage since last November and every month. I can’t remove his name as of yet from our mortgage and he is not happy. I also found out that he has a life insurance out on our daughter who is chronically ill and he wants her dead. I am trying to continue to keep my eyes on our Lord and I just want him to leave us alone. The nightmare from him hasn’t stopped

Eileen… I am so sorry you and your daughters are going through this. No one should have to carry something this heavy, especially when you are already fighting so much. My heart truly aches reading your words.

What you’re facing is overwhelming, but please hold on to this… God sees everything. Nothing is hidden from Him. The injustice, the fear, the pressure… He is not blind to it. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”Psalm 34:18. Even in this storm, He is near to you and your daughter.

I will continue to pray for you and your daughter… for protection, for provision, for peace, and for God to make a way where there seems to be no way.

Willie, brother, i love your heart and authenticity–your wisdom and words. You and I have both been in situations in which comfort is fleeting. If you asked this 20 years ago, I would have hesitated a bit? But ….I STILL would choose the cross. Comfort has never drawn me closer to Christ. I believe that’s why many DO suffer. The closer we get to Him, the more the enemy will tempt us with comfort–and Oh, the discomfort keeps me on my knees, praising God. I’ve learned to praise him in the valleys when he seems so far away and also, like our sweet sister said above–on the mountaintop. I’ve had shares of loss, trials, career changes–yet, it’s in the complexities of this life that we feel the Spirit. In comfort, I’m TOO self-reliant. I actually feel guilty if I’m TOO comfortable (does that make sense?). I run to the Garden when I need to cry. Our Savior has JOY to comfort us. He didn’t die to make us comfortable! Life is not for the faint of heart–and following Christ will cost! Look what it cost our Savior!

God bless you and keep you, my precious brother! You’re a blessing and light of truth in this world! You are LOVED! ❣️🙏🏻❣️

You’re right, comfort can make us lean on ourselves, but in those difficult places, we find ourselves on our knees, closer to Him. That’s where something real happens. That’s where we feel His presence in a deeper way.

      I’m Grateful for you, truly.

Thank you for your Encouragement and for Walking this path with me.

This message doesn’t just speak—it confronts. In a world that constantly chooses comfort, this is a wake-up call to return to the Cross.

We cannot claim Christ and avoid sacrifice. We cannot desire glory without embracing surrender. The Cross was never meant to be convenient—it was meant to transform.

Your words cut through complacency and remind us that true faith is costly, but eternally rewarding. May we have the courage not just to admire the Cross, but to carry it.

Great questions for reflection …what’s going through my mind ?? or heart … ??

this verse came to me … What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and suffer the loss of his own soul ??

Tough very tough to continue to remain focused on the end goal when pain strikes, poverty overwhelms and sorrow and grief come visiting. Tough to remain steadfast and steady in a storm knowing you will reach port if you hand the tiller over to the Captain of your soul instead of trying to steer it yourself.

Tough when the cross you carry seems lighter than the cross of your nearest and dearest family of your beloved sister who has been semi-conscious now for just over two years following a ruptured aneurism.

A sermon I heard by Bishop Fulton Sheen – “Sometimes lovers squeeze too tight” helped me somewhat to see through the pain to His love. Love prunes, Love purifies and Love squeezes till it hurts … and as I wrote in a post …. we pray for relief, for the cross to be lifted from us. He has asked us to take our burdens to HIm – come to me all ye who are heavy laden ….

Today I came across the Suscipe prayer of St. Ignatius. ” .Lord, receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all that I have and possess. Thou hast given all to me. To Thee, O lord, I return it. All is Thine, dispose of it wholly according to Thy will. Give me Thy love and thy grace, for this is sufficient for me. ”

May I – may we – be given the grace to say this – and mean it.

It really is hard to stay steady when suffering lingers like that. But even there, God is not distant. He holds every tear and sees every quiet act of faith. Sometimes the victory is simply not letting go of Him.

Praying for your sister and for Strength, Peace, and Grace to keep trusting, one day at a time.

Your “cross” vs. “comfort” reminds me of a philosophy teacher I had. He was going on one day on “qualia,” and what he said made me bend forward. “Science has no idea how the taste of an Oreo translates into a flash of neurons patterned to communicate that specific taste to your brain.” So, when a comfort food (or what passes for food) ceases to exist once its past the tongue, it feels like to me the rugged reality of the “cross” is there waiting for us. Last, I have a cousin who buys a giant bag of designer jellybeans every Easter. She says it gives her comfort. I haven’t the heart to tell her what neuro-philosophy reveals. She’d probably hit me with a jellybean or two.

“…where I am weak, Jesus is my strength,” reminds me of the how moving closer to Jesus helped me during a dark time in my life. It was many years ago, but I still remember how I had the strength to leave an unhealthy relationship as I discovered a Christian radio station I saw on a bumper sticker. The song, “Shout to the Lord,” gave me strength with the lyrics sang about Jesus being comfort and a tower of refuge and strength. Thank you for taking me back to that memory and reminding me that keeping close to Jesus will always give me strength real peace.

What a joy to follow this series, Willie. When everything seems heavy and the world offers deceptive comfort, I choose to follow the direction Christ showed us. In fact, I have been walking this path for many years, ever since I broke with the hypocrisy of family, religious groups, and false friends. The journey is not easy: many cannot keep up with us, the pressure of the world is intense, and abandonment is almost inevitable, just as it happened with Christ, when only a few remained by his side.

Even alone, even facing challenges, I choose the path of ethics and eternal truth. For where human weakness ends, the grace of Christ is fully revealed.

Willie, you’re boldly addressing a topic many believers don’t want to touch. Your perspective is spot on: the eternal focus needs to be the cross over any possible comfort. But you also address our weakness, our predisposition toward what’s easy and comfortable. When and where I’m weak, He alone is my strength. You’re so right in this. What I love about this series is the courage to talk about something we should all be using to encourage one another. Pain isn’t foreign to anyone. Jesus said that in this world, we would have trouble. His trouble, and that of the disciples, was very physical, incredibly uncomfortable. But Jesus persevered because of us, for us, for our hope, the promise of eternity. And His disciples grasped the reality of the risen Jesus–and it changed everything. Sharing our pain, like sharing our joys, is a privilege we offer one another. It reminds us we’re all human, we’re all messy, and we’re all weak. Thanks for this, my friend.

Thank you so much Dayle and Thank you for Reading and taking the time to share this. It means a lot.

You’re right, this isn’t an easy topic, but it’s one we need to be honest about. We all feel that pull toward what’s easy, and yet it’s in our weakness that we learn to depend on Him more. He is our strength.

I’m grateful you see the heart behind this series. If anything, I hope it helps us be more open with one another, to share both the pain and the hope we have in Christ.

All Glory and Praise belong to Him. 🙏

Great series, Willie. The subject of suffering is an important one, and you did a great job with your writing and the questions you highlighted. There are those who preach the false prosperity gospel, selling Christianity as some kind of easy button that magically turns people toward material riches and a life free of suffering. Thousands fall for this false gospel every year, so it’s nice to read messages containing truth like yours. God bless you, my friend.

As the series has come to a conclusion, I must say thank you for sharing it. Sometimes, we need a forceful reminder that the way of the cross leads through trial and tribulation. Give me gold tried in the fire.. and it’s one of the many ways God allows us to prove to ourselves that we are fit to be citizens of the kingdom and recipients of his marvelous grace and mercy.
    Keep sharing the word, sir.

Like that old saying, “anything worth while doing is worth the work”, we will know the answer to these questions when it becomes apparent.
No one likes to suffer, but Jesus and Paul both tell us to expect persecution and suffering for his name.
That’s when we will see the true value in our own selves of the validity of our faith in Jesus.
    Great lesson Willie

The unique Av tuma avoda zara of both Xtianity and Islam.

The Torah describes Molech as a specific form of Avoda Zarah. The manner of worship of worshipping that God, passing children “through fire”, as a ritual act to that deity. Halacha does not treat “any religion that includes suffering, death, or sacrifice” as Molech. Actual ritual human sacrifice – a physical act performed as a cultic offering.

Xtianity worships JeZeus as the son of God and part of the Nicene decreed Trinity. This theology depicts the brutal murder of JeZeus by way of torture, brutality, and slow death on the cross as a “Sacrifice to atone for Original Sin which condemns all Mankind to Hell”. Clearly the church never identified the Gospel “Father” with Moloch or any other specific “other God”.

Xtianity does not practice human sacrifice, but it does practice hate toward “Christ-killers” throughout its entire history as the dominant religion of European societies – Universally – almost all European Xtain countries practice dogmatic hatred against Jews through the worship of blood libels, pogroms, taxation without representation, ghetto gulags and WWII Shoah.

Molech worship, defined by a very specific ritual. Obviously Xtianity does not fit this model exactly for any person to affix the “Father” to JeZeus son of God. Halacha never equates Xtianity with Molech, that’s a known historical fact. The Talmud analysis of avoda zara does not address the mythological Gods of Mt. Olympus; any more than it does the theological dogma known as the Nicene Creed of the Trinity, or the Muslim tawhid creed of strict monotheism.

The church imposed a Devil hatred worship, akin to the bi-polar Good/Evil Gods of Zoasterism – toward Jews. Both Priests and Pastors promoted this Satan hatred as their worship of their God. This does not affix Xtianity as a Zoasterism faith, anymore than its worship of the cult of JeZeus sacrifice upon the Cross qualifies as the worship of the God of Moloch!

Medieval Xtian theology emphasizes a moral dualism (God vs. Devil) and often employed demonization of Jews in preaching and polemics. As such Xtian theology cast Jews as demons of Satan and other such negative slander. This criminal “mass insanity” defines the crimes committed against the Jews of Germany during the first Crusades, and the repeated forced mass population transfers from one European country to another.

The Talmud in Baba Kama’s opening Mishna teaches of 4 Avot\archetypes of Tam (damagers without intent). The teaching style of Oral Torah require that the reader him/her self make the logical inference. Oral Torah interprets the k’vanna of wisdom commandments, known as “time-oriented mitzvot”. The 3rd Book of the Torah defines korbanot as “time-oriented commandments”. Consequently if 4 archetypes of Tam damagers then logically also 4 Avot of Mu’ad (intentional damagers) – theft, oppression, incest, and bribing judges to corrupt a court ruling. Theology, politics, social scapegoating, mob slaughter of Jewish communities/Inquisition etc qualify as specific historical examples that come within the 4 Avot archetypes of mu’ad damagers.

Incest (boundary violation), a metaphor for violating the most intimate self identity of Jews; like baptizing children against the will of their parents; forced conversions, erasure of identity, spiritual violence etc. The Church – both Catholic and Protestant – branches purposely crushed despised Jewish refugee populations as an act of worship of their unnamed “Father” of JeZeus God in heaven. Xtianity’s “Father” not not Molech, not Zoroastrianism, not halachically human sacrifice. Therefore I don’t need to call your God Molech to say the church worship of their unnamed “Father” God in Heaven resembles other religions of avoda zara in multiple and many ways.

Post Shoah no exoneration. 2000+ years of Pie in the Sky – where was JeZeus during the Shoah. Where was Allah during the disastrous Arab and Muslim defeats post the victory of Jewish national Independence in ’48 and ’67? Molech: a narrowly defined avodah zarah; Xtianity does not fit that ritual model. Our Sages, of blessed memory do not map out Olympus, Nicene Trinitarianism, or Islamic tawhid by name; they give categories, not a catalog. The way you worshipped your God, and the culture you built around that worship, resembles avodah zarah in its effects and its moral structure—even if halacha doesn’t technically classify it as Molech or Zoroastrianism. Based fundamentally upon the gospel rebuke of: “By their fruits you shall know them”. Whatever you call your “Father” God, the avodah that produced those fruits cannot be called righteous. History itself judges the worship of your Gods as false.

What your theologies promote for Xtians or Muslims to believe – pie in the sky nonsense. What have both the Church and Mosque done? What did your God-jabber theology/creeds license “believers” to do? Drop your slogans and propaganda rhetoric and your emotions on your sleeve, history judges your Av tuma faith by the crimes of its fruits.

Brother, this has been such a thought provoking series… I read the comments, amazing how God’s word is coming just when needed through you 🙏😎

You’ve raised so many thought provoking points. I suppose many are thinking “I can be comfortable AND have the cross”… and as many have already noted, there’s a slippery slope there…complacency… that threatens. When you have all you need, the danger is becoming lukewarm to both or worse, the cross alone. Thinking about the Rich Young Ruler and if he ever changed his mind.

Thanks again for this series… really well written and without the animations, it DID sort of make you pay closer attention to the words, as you planned. Great job! 🙏😎❤️🏄🏻‍♂️

Your reflection is very profound. To make wise decisions, one must rise to the level of the consequences in eternal life. I believe we should never sacrifice true life for something fleeting. May God give us clarity and discernment to always make the best choices. What is right is right, regardless of whether it is comfortable or not. Often, difficult decisions appear as if they were tests to prove us. We should always be upright, even when no one is watching, so that we can have a clear conscience.🪷

This is such a powerful question—and honestly, it’s a topic many people don’t want to talk about. It reveals the real tension between the flesh and the spirit.

While comfort may be the natural pull, I’m learning to choose the cross and lean into the strength that only Jesus provides. There is grace for the process, and strength available in every moment we say yes to Him. He is worth it all, every single time. Thank you for sharing! ❤️❤️❤️

What Ya’ Thinking?

I’m Willie

Hello and Welcome to my Website.
My name is William Torres, but my family and friends call me Willie. It is a pleasure to be here with you today, and I am excited to share my faith journey with you.

My journey has been amazing and fulfilling as a new Christian. I have seen God work in my life in ways I never could have imagined. I have grown closer to my faith and have seen Him work in my life and the lives of those around me. I am truly blessed to call myself a Christian, and I am excited to continue to grow in my faith.

I believe that I have come a long way in life. Over the years, I have worked hard to become a better man, husband to Frances Torres, and father to our children. I have strived to be a good friend and companion to those I have been fortunate to build relationships with. I have learned to appreciate the small moments of joy and fulfillment that come with every human connection.

I began writing stories that I believe were inspired by the Holy Spirit. These stories are my testimonies about the different trials I have gone through, and how the Lord has helped me to overcome them. Through this process, I’ve discovered that I can forgive those I once vowed to never forgive, and in turn, my relationships with them have been restored. They are now a huge blessing and a special part of my life.

I hope that through my writing I can be a source of encouragement to other people in their faith and relationship with the Lord. I pray that those who read my words will be blessed by the Lord and find strength and comfort in His Word.

To be honest, I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am not perfect, but it is in this place of acceptance that I am able to truly worship a God who is. His infinite love brings me joy, strength, and peace, and I am thankful for the privilege of being able to serve Him.

I have also started a Social Media Ministry on Facebook, which I invite you to visit here. Being Crazy For Christ is a platform where I share my journey of faith, and I am also on YouTube – Willie Torres Jr. and I am excited to see all that God will do through it.

This is my hope, and I’m so thankful for it. I’m thankful for the love of Jesus, and I’m thankful for the chance to grow in Him together with you.

You Are Loved

Willie Torres Jr.
