“Choosing the Kingdom of God Over the Kingdom of Self in Relationships”

A few days ago, my Dear Friend and sister in Christ, Mandy, shared a post (Post above) that really touched me. It left such an impact that I felt compelled to share it here on my blog (with her permission, of course). I wanted not only to share her powerful words but also to reflect on them and include the comment I left on her post.

Living in the Kingdom of Self (KoS) often feels natural, where our personal wants and frustrations take over. When things don’t go as planned, we get irritated, quick to speak, angry, and impatient. But this mindset conflicts with the Kingdom of God (KoG), where we’re taught to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Being stuck in KoS makes life feel out of control, like everything has been shaken up, just like a snow globe.

In the Kingdom of God (KoG), the focus shifts. We realize that control isn’t ours to hold. Instead of reacting to every irritation, we are invited to love God and love others. Not every issue needs to be overanalyzed, and many things that once caused frustration just don’t matter as much when seen through grace.

There are times when wanting things to change can lead to frustration with God. We want situations or people to meet our expectations, but this creates tension. Looking back on these moments, we realize how thankful we are that God doesn’t always give us what we ask for. What seems right in the moment isn’t always what’s best for our growth.

Living in the Kingdom of God doesn’t mean ignoring personal preferences. For example, wanting cleanliness may seem selfish, but it can also be about stewardship, honoring what God has entrusted to us. It’s not about expecting perfection, but about finding peace in surrender and balancing our needs with those of others.

The journey is challenging and requires effort to live with godliness instead of focusing on ourselves. Growth takes time and involves letting go of control, choosing Grace, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our actions and responses. Despite the struggles, we’re reminded that true transformation happens when we align with the Kingdom of God and make space for His Grace in every relationship, decision, and moment.

Here’s the comment I shared on her post.

This speaks to me in so many ways. It’s like reading a mirror of my own heart and struggles. I get the frustration of wanting to hold on to my own sense of control, wanting things to go my way, and feeling rattled when they don’t. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve let my temper fly or my frustration spill over, thinking, *why should I always be the one to give in?*

But then, like you said, there’s that call to live according to the Kingdom of God instead of the Kingdom of Self, and it hits hard. I’m a work in progress for sure. Being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, those words should be etched into my brain. Sometimes I wonder, though, how do we really make this shift without feeling like we’re letting ourselves be walked on?

You mentioned that we’re not supposed to figure this out alone, and that’s the piece I always struggle with. When my emotions are at a boiling point, it’s so easy to feel like I have to manage it myself. But God, in His grace, helps us grow in ways that seem impossible at first, even in those moments where I just want to be heard or seen.

I also loved what you said about stewardship. Wanting things to be clean or organized isn’t about selfishness, it’s about responsibility. That’s something I’m learning too, especially as I’m trying to manage my home and relationships. There’s balance in that, in desiring things to be done well but also not letting it drive me crazy when things go awry.

Your prayer at the end really resonated with me too. *Lord, may You increase as I decrease.* That’s what I want, less of my selfishness and more of His peace, patience, and love. But man, it’s hard work! I’m grateful for the Holy Spirit’s help, though, because without that, I’d be lost.

Be Blessed Mandy and Continue to be a Blessing…

Willie Torres

“Amen to every word, often said, rarely heard”

All Christian’s, believers of God or whomever other’s pray to, we are all on the same journey. It is a hard road but God didn’t say it would be easy that’s why the path is narrow and only a “few shall pass through” to the KoG. Being human, we all fail at times and fall from grace. Lose our tempers too prematurely, speak harsh words, then regret it, feel we’ve disgraced ourselves and let God down but truth is, we haven’t, it’s called “being human” and to berate ourselves for not being perfect, which we will never be, is not God’s wish for us. All he asks is that do our best, our intentions and our hearts are good and we do our best. As long as we try, as long as know when we are in the wrong and pray for forgiveness and mercy then we honour God. If we continue to fail, to fall, never learn and mistreat others and are selfishly letting our ego’s dictate how we should be, act, what we say, then we not only dishonour God, we dishonour ourselves and others more. If others don’t like our attempts to be good, to live in The light of Christ of goodness, try to be a better person then let them, WE know we’re trying to be better versions of our faulty selves, are learning and try not to go against what and whom we believe in. That makes the path smoother. Accept our faults and try to amend them. That’s all anyone can ask and all we can ask of ourselves. Admitting we’re wrong and repenting in prayer is what matters. Is pleasing to God. Only He knows the plans he has for us. We cannot control our future, we can only accept and be grateful for every day, what we do, say, good or bad, give thanks to The Lord and pray 🙏❤️

This post truly resonated with me! The contrast between the Kingdom of Self and the Kingdom of God is something I’ve struggled with too, especially when things don’t go as planned. Your reflection on surrendering control and embracing grace is such a powerful reminder.
Also, the images you shared beautifully complement the message—they visually capture that feeling of being shaken, like a snow globe, and the peace that comes when we shift our focus to God’s will. Thank you for sharing this, Mandy! Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

It’s a deeply honest and heartfelt reflection on the inner struggle between self and surrender, between the desire for control and the trust in grace. It’s beautiful how, even in frustration, there’s a reminder that we are not walking this path alone. Transformation is a journey, but every step toward love and patience is a small triumph of the soul.

Very cool that Mandy is able to translate the Hebrew into English, and the significance of that one introductory word. Also about how similar the proverb is to the Sermon on the Mount. Love how in the 2-D pages of Scripture, there’s a 3-D linkage of prophecies and events hundreds of years apart!

You wrote “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve let my temper fly or my frustration spill over” and that you’re still a WIP. Those types of admissions are always so encouraging. The other day I went for a 3-mile walk and at the end, thought I had hit the stop button on my watch. After 10 min of sitting down and doing some light activity, the watch helpfully says “I noticed you’ve stopped moving. End activity?” Argh! I’m trying to improve my cardio and had walked/ran as fast as I could… and now the graphs and numbers were all screwed up. 45 min down the tubes. 😝😤 I gotta admit Willie, I did not steeple my fingers in saintly fashion with a serene smile, lol. I’m a WIP, too 😂

I love how you connected the Hebrew translation and the connection between Scripture and the Sermon on the Mount, it’s amazing to see those timeless links. Willie, you did well to share this text with us, which leads us to what we call self-knowledge, where we face our shadows. As mentioned, we do not have absolute control over situations, not even over other people’s attitudes, but we can have control over how we react to everything that is beyond our control. You touched on an important point about satisfying our Self instead of submitting to spirituality, something very notable these days, where “there is a lot of talking and little listening.” Thank you for this reflection, I wish that God’s blessings are always upon you and your family. 🙂🙌🏻✨✍🏻🌌🦁

Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. I truly appreciate your insight into the importance of self-knowledge and how we choose to react to situations beyond our control. I must give credit to Mandy for sharing such a wonderful and insightful post, and of course, all Glory to God for His Love, Mercy, and Grace.

May His Blessings continue to guide and bless you as well. 🙏✨

Thank you so much for Reading and for your Encouraging Words… I agree, it’s all about Jesus working through us. It’s often very difficult, and sometimes we lose our way, but He is always there to pick us up, dust us off, and lead us back to His path.

I’m so grateful for His Grace and the way He leads us, even when we don’t fully realize it.

I’m Blessed by your friendship, kindness and prayers. You Are Loved as well, and may you feel His Peace and Blessings today and always…. 🙏

The world we live in promotes self and we must be intentional about choosing God every day. I love the verse you mentioned, “Being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.”

In my opinion, from my experiences in inner journey : Kingdom of God is within and we cannot enter into it as per our will. We are living in the phase that is called as ‘dark night of the soul’ and whatever we do it is going to become a wrong decision as far as entering the kingdom of god. Coming out of the dark night of the soul and entering the Kingdom of God happens simultaneously. So it happens by the grace of God only.
I have written few posts on terminology used in Bible to describe according to what I found in my spiritual journey.

Thank you for Visiting, Reading and sharing your insights. The concept of the “Kingdom of God” and the “dark night of the soul” is so powerful, and I appreciate your perspective on how Grace plays a central role in our spiritual journey.
I’m excited to read your post. You may need to share how I can find them…
Be Blessed and Be a Blessing.

Yes, the self, when energized by pride, spirits away toward an inevitable doom. We should give to each day and share the good in everything. Thank you for this post, and I hope you and everyone are enjoying the dawn of this spring! 😊

Great post indeed. I had a different view about Kingdom of God. So to me it seems there are two ways to enter the kingdom of God. One is slowly growing step by step and another is sudden. In my case suddenly I found myself in Kingdom of God and through that experience the acts changed automatically. It is very similar to Sudden awakening of Zen people of Japan.

I’m Willie

Hello and Welcome to my Website.
My name is William Torres, but my family and friends call me Willie. It is a pleasure to be here with you today, and I am excited to share my faith journey with you.

My journey has been amazing and fulfilling as a new Christian. I have seen God work in my life in ways I never could have imagined. I have grown closer to my faith and have seen Him work in my life and the lives of those around me. I am truly blessed to call myself a Christian, and I am excited to continue to grow in my faith.

I believe that I have come a long way in life. Over the years, I have worked hard to become a better man, husband to Frances Torres, and father to our children. I have strived to be a good friend and companion to those I have been fortunate to build relationships with. I have learned to appreciate the small moments of joy and fulfillment that come with every human connection.

I began writing stories that I believe were inspired by the Holy Spirit. These stories are my testimonies about the different trials I have gone through, and how the Lord has helped me to overcome them. Through this process, I’ve discovered that I can forgive those I once vowed to never forgive, and in turn, my relationships with them have been restored. They are now a huge blessing and a special part of my life.

I hope that through my writing I can be a source of encouragement to other people in their faith and relationship with the Lord. I pray that those who read my words will be blessed by the Lord and find strength and comfort in His Word.

To be honest, I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am not perfect, but it is in this place of acceptance that I am able to truly worship a God who is. His infinite love brings me joy, strength, and peace, and I am thankful for the privilege of being able to serve Him.

I have also started a Social Media Ministry on Facebook, which I invite you to visit here. Being Crazy For Christ is a platform where I share my journey of faith, and I am also on YouTube – Willie Torres Jr. and I am excited to see all that God will do through it.

This is my hope, and I’m so thankful for it. I’m thankful for the love of Jesus, and I’m thankful for the chance to grow in Him together with you.

You Are Loved

Willie Torres Jr.
