Embracing Faith Over Wishes
Wishes? Faith and hope are about trusting in something greater than ourselves, believing that there is purpose and promise in our journey. They encourage us to keep moving forward, even when the path is unclear. Unlike wishes, which can feel fleeting and reliant on luck, faith and hope ground us in the reality that we can actively seek growth and strength, no matter the circumstances. While a genie grants wishes that may or may not align with our true needs, faith and hope inspire us to cultivate resilience, seek connection, and embrace the possibilities that come with trusting in a divine plan.

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”
Wishes and Faith:
Wishes—what can we say about them? They represent the things we long for, often knowing the odds of them coming true are slim, maybe one in a hundred. Still, we dream, and often we dream of the impossible.

John 15:7: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you”
Take these, for example:
1. I wish for a beautiful white farmhouse in a southern state, with a large field, a barn, a two-car garage, and a view of the mountains right from the front porch. Along with my new home, I also wish for the pickup and Jeep I’ve always dreamed of.

James 1:6: “I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours”
2. I wish for perfect health for my wife, my boys, and myself—that we’d never experience pain, anxiety, or worry again. I wish my wife’s knees could be fully healed so she could walk normally, and we could enjoy the outdoors like we used to. I wish my boys didn’t have to carry the burdens they do at such young ages.

2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by Faith, not by sight.
3. I wish I could work from home as a full-time author, making a living through book sales, with an agent getting my work out there. That would be the dream—doing what I love while providing for my family.

Psalm 20:4 ESV
May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans.
But these are just wishes, fantasies I know may never come true.
Then we look at faith. Faith teaches me to be content where I am. My home may not be a farmhouse or a log cabin—heck, it’s not even close to the kind of place people dream of owning. But faith allowed us to call it home. Faith allowed it to be paid off, and faith helps us make ends meet. When something breaks, by God’s grace, we somehow have just enough saved to fix it.

Philippians 4:19 (KJV) . “But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Faith is knowing that God will not forsake us. As the song above says, “All our Hope is in Jesus, thank God that yesterday is gone, our sins are forgiven, and we’ve been washed by the blood.” The real question is: Are we content? That’s often a hard one, especially when we find ourselves bargaining with God. As my Small Group leader asks, “Is God enough?”

Then there’s work. I’m in the middle of possibly losing my job, and the worst part is not knowing when or how soon it will happen. Living paycheck to paycheck is stressful enough, but now the company owner is selling the business and keeping us in the dark about what’s coming next.

Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
On top of that, my health isn’t great, and I’m not exactly young enough to start over in a new career. That’s where the fantasy sneaks back in: Maybe I could find a way to work from home. Maybe, if I could be my own boss, things would be different. Or maybe I should add to my wish list the dream of spending the rest of my life as an author, writing books for a living.
But who am I kidding? I can’t even get support from my own family outside of my wife and our boys, let alone expect strangers to buy my book and think it’s worth reading.

“For even his own brothers did not believe in him.”
Still, enough with the pity, patty, poopy, party. I could have given some polished, “Miss America” type of answers about what I wish for, but instead, I’ve shared what’s really on my mind, heart, and soul. It may not be perfect, but it’s real—and it’s where I am.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Thank you for Visiting and Reading. While this post was meant for fun, it holds a lot of truth and reflects many of the struggles I face, just as I’m sure others do.
I’m not a preacher or teacher, just someone with my own challenges. But even when I forget, I must remind myself to lean on God, trusting that He’s with me every step of the way and will never forsake me. And I hope you know that He loves you and is always with you, too.

“The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.’”
Be Blessed and Be a Blessing.
You Are Loved.
Please keep me in your Prayers.

Willie, such a heartfelt post, loads and loads of 🤗🤗🤗 to you and Frances. The job, I relate with you cause early this year the company I worked, under the new management decided they didn’t need contract employees. I’m noting down your needs and lifting your family in prayer. I can only encourage you with Philippians 4:6-7. Thankyou for sharing your heart.

Thank you so much for Reading, Commenting, and Praying—we truly appreciate it. Your prayers mean a lot, as we can definitely use them. We struggle with worry and anxiety as a family, but I trust that God is with us. If He closes a door, I believe He’ll open one that’s better, brighter, and bigger. I hold on to that Hope, though it doesn’t always make the worrying any easier.
Thank you again for your kindness, support and encouragement.
Blessings to You and your Family, today and always.

This is a very well written post Willie. I know that the light of Christ is shinning on you, Frances and the boys even though you might not see it all the time. I pray that you and Frances health grows stronger. The book I bought is a great read brother and maybe it just needs more/different marketing. A thing I am learning right now.
Life’s ups and downs really can mess with our heads no matter how strong our faith is, just remember this one thing brother “You never walk alone.”

Brother, I can’t Thank You enough for your Kind and Heartfelt words. Your prayers mean so much to us and truly cover us. I believe that if God has brought this book to life, He has a greater plan for it beyond just short-term success and the same goes for you. You are going to deliver an amazing book and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
I also saw your review online about the book, and it really touched me. I couldn’t find a way to reply on the site, but I want you to know how grateful I am for your support.
Always remember, you’re never alone in this journey either.

The book is very good, it explains your views perfectly without offending others. It resonated with me deeply and you know I’m spiritual not religious so yeah I’m thinking Amazon probably buried it. I hear that is common if you don’t pay them to advertise. I am going to have a link on my site to purchase my book directly from IS which pays me a lot more than Amazon will, I will be using many different avenues I’m thinking.

Thank you so much. That was my first book, so it was definitely a learning experience. I hope to improve if I choose to keep going. Only God knows. Depending on what happens with my job in the next few days or weeks, I might explore other platforms to see if I can get my book out there more. If it doesn’t gain traction, I might consider letting it go altogether. We’ll see.

Willie, thank you for sharing so openly. Your strength in this challenging season speaks volumes. Life can feel incredibly uncertain, especially when things like work and health feel out of our control—but please know you’re not alone.
I believe that faith can move mountains, even when we can’t see the path ahead. I’m praying for peace to fill your heart as you navigate these unknowns and for doors to open that no one can close. Your faith is a light, not only for you but also for others who may be facing similar struggles.
Thank you as well for the encouragement you’ve shared with me on my posts. Stay strong, my friend. ❤️ 🤗

Brother, you have said it all, faith is the only way because in knowing that God provides we have already fulfilled all our wishes. We have the knowledge that we have been given a big, enormous gift, which is faith and that no genie can grant, it is a gift exclusively from God. Many blessings my friend and all the best!

1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Psalm 37

The Lord’s plan for us is above all that we can ask or think, above our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes or dreams. Ephesians 3:20 Amp.
I can look back 20 years ago and see how I was asking for all the wrong things. His plan for me was so much better than I could see at the time. He is worthy of all our trust and hope!
Hang in there, Willie. He has a better plan for you than you can imagine!

Willie, a beautiful text where you emphasize the power of faith, which is greater than our desires and expectations. Indeed, in a time of uncertainty in this current scenario that we are living in, we must not lose heart in the face of challenges. As for your employment situation, the best thing to do is wait. I believe that “All things work together for good for those who love God and walk according to His purpose.” I know the idea of changing careers seems scary, but it can be something positive so that you have fewer days of work and more time for yourself and to dedicate yourself to the work you love. As for the wishes of the magic lamp, oh, dreaming, imagining and sighing for something, it never hurts. Thank you for sharing this beautiful text and Leo’s images with us 🦁. May God’s blessings be upon the lives of your entire family. 🤗🙌🏻✨🌜🦁🌞

Ok Willie…….so first I so love all the pics you used in your post. Especially the Lion! I get the dreams too. We all kinda dream. I would just love to somehow be published like you have at least! It’s all perspective and someone is always further along then us yes?!
Now about the job thing. My husband has been laid off a couple of times. One time right before we left for a Cruise we could not cancel. But GOD taught me a lot about what you talk about here………contentment. I learned to be content with HIM. If we somehow lost our house and then dealing with a loss of a job, I still HAD JESUS! And I celebrated that fact. Of course it was all my faith too. GOD walked with us closely during those layoff times and it was amazing how HE provided to keep us going and no, we didn’t lose the house either. We waited for a job too. Six months one time, nine the other time. And GOD showed me how to rest in the waiting! So I will start praying for you today my brother in CHRIST. That my GOD will meet all your needs because HE is so good and faithful to those who love HIM! YOU ARE LOVED – oh I liked that pic too!!!!!

I find myself troubled by the uncertainty and the “what ifs,” but you’re right—finding contentment in Him during challenging times is truly inspiring and serves as a wonderful reminder of His faithfulness. I know God is with me, and there’s nothing He can’t do. If He hasn’t forsaken me yet, I’m confident He won’t start now.
So Great to have you back.
Be Blessed and Continue to be a Blessing.

It’s a beautiful reflection, Willie, about what’s really important in our lives. Many times, we want things that maybe we won’t be satisfied with in the future. Or we spend part of our lives trying to make dreams come true, when in fact, we should be grateful for what we already have and try to improve it, but without allowing greed and worries to get the better of us, to the point of falling ill and despairing. The importance of faith in invisible things is essential to keep us going. Thank you, my friend, for the beautiful text and the beautiful illustrations. Have a blessed weekend. 😃🦁

I know how much it means for a writer to have an audience. We long for connection, for our message to be heard.
Unfortunately, most new authors struggle even to find a publisher these days. Fewer people read. The internet and other media have reduced publishing returns, and consequently publishing houses.
Most first books fail, financially. They do not receive much marketing, and the competition is tremendous. There are some 3 million new books published each year.
That does not make writing a lost art. The God who made us and filled us w/ words still appreciates our efforts. He reads every draft. He, in fact, is the source of godly inspiration.
Many writers we now recognize as famous wrestled w/ failure. Those include Herman Melville, John Steinbeck, JRR Tolkien, Agatha Christie, and JK Rowling. So you are in good company. Do not lose heart.
