Today, I felt compelled to share some thoughts on Pride and being Proud, even though I rarely engage with prompts like this. When I reflect on the question, I struggle to identify anything I’m truly proud of. I often feel insecure and wonder if I’ve ever achieved anything worthy of being proud. Yes, I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 1988, but I frequently think I could have been a better husband and provided more for my wife to strengthen our bond and the trust she has in me.

On a brighter note, I am proud of our two wonderful sons. Despite my past as a heavy drinker and my wife and I smoking for many years, they have chosen a different path. They’ve never touched alcohol, drugs, or even used profanity, which is especially significant given our own struggles with those issues. They are genuinely loved by everyone who knows them, and that makes me incredibly proud.

I’m also proud that I took a leap of faith and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. However, I sometimes feel like I’ve failed to guide my family in that same direction.

I’m proud to say I’ve held every serious job for over ten years, leaving only when the company sold or shut down, except for one job where I was laid off due to attendance issues from my past laziness and drinking.

Despite what others might say about having reasons to be proud, I often focus on my shortcomings, which feeds my insecurity.

Now, regarding Pride: I’ve written two Christian-based books, guided by God. I wrote, edited, and proofread them using software, and I even have four more in the works. But, and yes, there is a BIG “but”, I’m not proud of the outcomes. The lack of sales diminishes my sense of accomplishment, making it hard to celebrate what I’ve done.

So what can I truly say I’m proud of? Ultimately, I believe it comes down to “listening to the Lord.” When He told me, “Willie, you tried it your way; now follow Me,” I knew I needed to make a change. I’m not a perfect Christian, nor am I a saint, but I firmly believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, and that He came to set us free from sin and offer eternal life to those who believe.

Although I face health challenges that I haven’t shared and may not unless God leads me to, I find comfort in knowing that God loves me. If you call upon Him, He will love you too because He desires that no one perishes. While I may not feel prideful about my faith, I am proud that I opened my heart to Jesus. Despite facing mockery and the challenges of walking this journey alone, I have not turned back and continue to press forward.

In addition to my personal struggles, I also want to emphasize the importance of community and support in our journeys. Sharing our experiences with others can bring healing and encouragement, not just to ourselves but to those around us. I hope that by being open about my insecurities and achievements, I can inspire someone else to reflect on their own journey.

I do everything for His Glory, Praise, and Honor. What I am proud of most is being a Christian, a father to two amazing boys, a husband to my high school sweetheart, and yes, being Puerto Rican.

God Bless You all and Thank you for Reading.
You Are Loved

After reading this post it became clear to me bro. I don’t take pride in this but am PROUD of you and Frances for the job you done with your boy’s and long marriage. You are an amazing person and shouldn’t doubt the success you’ve made even with one sale. Much of this from what I understand is more about how much your willing to spend on clicks at Amazon and other platforms to generate clicks to your books. Still it is not magical cure all.
And I hope you are not ashamed about the past, it was the road that brought you to glory. This is why I post about my life, so others can understand how I became who I am. peace and love brother.

My Dear Brother, thank you so much for Reading and for your thoughtful, heartfelt words. I genuinely appreciate your support and Recognition of the journey that Frances and I have been on and have taken with our boys. I’m humbled by your kind comment, and it means a lot to hear that you’re proud of us.
I know that book sales shouldn’t define my worth or my writing; a dear friend and pastor once told me that if even one person is touched by what I share and God gets the glory, that should be my focus. It’s a constant reminder for me, though I admit it’s natural to seek some form of Recognition. The key is to ensure that all Recognition goes to God.
I truly believe our past experiences shape who we are, and I’m grateful for every lesson learned. Your willingness to share your own journey is inspiring to me as well.
God Bless You today and always.
Peace, love and Vicks Tissues my Dear Brother.

Willie, there are not enough words. Your life radiates light, you continue to reflect Jesus through this blog and I admire you so so much. Your family are blessed to have you as a husband and father.
You authored 2 books already, that is an achievement in itself.
Whatever health issues you’re going through I hope you continue to find strength and healing in God’s perfect time.
Thankyou for being you. God bless you and may He continue to pour over and into your life. 🤗🤗🤗

It takes a lot to bring me to tears, but your comment truly touched my heart. Thank you so much—I’m at a loss for words. Your beautiful and heartfelt words mean the world to me. I sincerely hope my family feels blessed to have me in their lives, just as I feel blessed to have them in mine.
When it comes to the admiration you’ve expressed for what I’m doing, I have to give all the Glory, Honor, and Praise to God as I always do and always will. He saved a wretch like me, and everything I do is in line with His purpose.
Some have told me I should be proud of the books I’ve published, and while I do love them, I can’t quite feel that joy yet. I know I accomplished them on my own, but (And yes, there is that but again), there’s still something holding me back from feeling joyful.
I’m truly grateful to have you by my side on this journey, and I appreciate having met you as we walk and grow together.
Regarding my health issues, I’m surrendering them to God. I can’t control what happens, but I can control how I navigate through this valley.
Psalm 23:4 (NIV): Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for God is with me; His rod and His staff, they comfort me. “I will fear no evil and will continue to worship my God, Amen

Willie, what a great post! It can be hard to give ourselves a pat on the back, I’m the worst. Compliments are unfortable too, that must stem from my traumatic background. One thing is for sure is, you gave your life to the Lord and although not perfect, which noone is, you strive to do good, improve yourself, set a good example for your kids and even with struggles you’re still married to your wife. All huge accomplishments to be proud of.

Thank you for Reading and Thank You so much for your kind words. I can definitely relate to what you said about finding compliments uncomfortable. It’s not always easy to see the good in ourselves, especially when life has its challenges. But I know it’s all by God’s Grace that I’ve made it this far, He gets all the Glory for every step forward.
I’m just doing my best to follow His lead, love my family, and grow each day, imperfections and all.
Thank you so much for your encouragement it really means a lot.

Great and powerful post, Willie. I think we all suffer from the “thinking about our shortcomings, which feeds our insecurities” syndrome. That’s a daily battle that needs to be fought. Once we learn our lessons and correct our lives so as not to repeat past mistakes, we need to focus on the future, even when forces beyond comprehension try to pull us back to the past. That’s when the power of prayer comes in. You have a lot to be thankful for, and God is going to reward you in the end, my friend. I have the same issue, but keep focusing on the important things: your faith and your family. The rest is unimportant, and God will always provide a way. 🙏🏼

Have you ever read ” The Cross and the Switchblade,” by David Wilkerson?

I’ve heard of it but don’t think I have read it.

It is about when David Wilkerson went to New York and started ministering to Gang members. Nicky Cruz was one of the first to get saved. His parents sent him to New York on a plane by himself when he was small to live with his brother. He was Puerto Rican and a gang member with 16 murders under his belt. He got saved and became a wonderful evangelist. The Lord used Nicky in so many great ways. I have read 2 of his books. You said you were a Puerto Rican like that was a problem. You have so much going for you. He had so much more to overcome than you do. Maybe It’s just how you look at it. 😎

Hmm, I might have to look for that and read it. No, I don’t have a problem at all with being Puerto Rican, I said that was one of the things I was proud of. Being a Christian, A Father, a Husband and being Puerto Rican.

I am sorry. I did not understand. I thought of Nicky Cruz and how the Lord used him. He is over 80 years old now but still going. The books I mentioned really built my faith to see the Lord doing so much. If we feed on positive things, it helps so much! I think Puerto Ricans are super cute! 😎

Love, love, love this message, brother about something the human flesh struggles with every day. We all want/ need to feel valued and appreciated and often forget our successes and accomplishments have their source in the God who bestows gifts upon his children. I also tend to be uncomfortable with compliments but realize it’s okay if I thank and give glory to God first and foremost. There is much I could say I am proud of but most of all I am proud of my relationship with God for leading me back to Him after He had to severely correct my path and my disobedience. I’ve seen His faithfulness so many times in my life and I now know He can be trusted with everything that concerns me. I know our relationship will not be perfect in this life but I look forward to eternity in His presence! Amen and Amen brother! So uplifted by this blessed work you do and the art work is so impactful and drives home the message! 💛🙏🙏🙏

Thank you so much, Sister Bev, for Reading and sharing your thoughts. I’m thrilled that you enjoyed this post. It wasn’t my intention to dive into such details, but God!
Hearing how your relationship with Him has guided you is truly inspiring. Your insight on recognizing our successes as gifts from God is uplifting.
We often get caught up in seeking Recognition and forget our true purpose: to give all Glory, Honor, and Praise to Him. It’s easy to become discouraged and lose sight of what truly matters. God is always at work within us, and even when we stumble, He’s there to dust us off and lift us up. The real question is whether we’ll allow Him to help us or choose to push Him away. This is the challenge we face, do we admit we need His help or try to navigate life on our own?
Here’s to trusting Him in all things and looking forward to eternity together Amen 💛🙏.
God Bless You today and always.

Thank you for sharing your story, Willie. It is so nice to hear someone be so open about their problems. What you said about your sons made me really happy. You should be so proud of them!

Jesus is also part of my life too. When my younger daughter was born I named her Nazeha Maryam. It means immaculate Marry in my language.
