This Was Just For Fun
Although this is a bit different from what I usually do, I wanted to have some fun in honor of Ernie Dawg and Kevin the Gorilla.
To make a long story short (something I seem to excel at), I commented on one of Ernie’s posts about Disco music a few weeks ago. As someone born in ’69 and a toddler in the ’70s, I was grooving to hits like “Boogie Nights,” “Dancing Machine,” “Boogie Wonderland,” and many more great tracks. While Disco wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, it definitely was mine. Even over 50 years later, I can still pretend to dance like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever with the best of them.
So, here’s a little tribute to Kevin, Ernie, and the fantastic days of bell-bottoms, platform shoes, big-collared shirts, disco balls, lighted floors, and Big Daddy Cool!
Leo the Lion and the Disco Groove
Leo the Lion called his friends, Ernie Dawg and Kevin Gorilla,
To Studio 54, where the night was a thriller.
They dressed the part, ready to rule the floor,
The DJ spun records; the lights flashed galore.

Afros and glitter, colors so bright,
Everyone dancing, doing The Hustle just right.

Leo couldn’t resist, he made his move,
To the Bee Gees’ tune, he found his groove.

Dawg and Gorilla laughed, then joined the fun,
Swaying to “Last Dance,” their night had begun.
Soon they were the stars, circled by the crowd,
With cheers and applause, the music played loud.

“Night Fever” filled the room, a disco delight,
Only missing Disco Duck with his quack and shout bright.
“You Should Be Dancing,” Dawg said to a redhead,
“Why don’t you dance with my friend?” she said.

The other redhead smiled, “Can you handle my moves?”
Dawg grinned, “Baby, I got this, I Will Survive the grooves.”
Gorilla jumped in, feeling the beat,
“Do You Think I’m Sexy?” he asked, feeling the heat.

With smiles and laughter, they hit the dance floor,
Grooving to “Knock on Wood,” the crowd wanted more.
They formed a Love Train, moving in sync,
Leo felt like Hot Stuff, with a mischievous wink.

The dance-off was fierce, no one left behind,
“Mamma Mia,” It only Takes a Minute to find.
Love and laughter in the air, not a night to forget,
Not even September could make it more perfect yet.

From rock to salsa, country to Christian beats,
Even Grateful Dead couldn’t compete.
But something about disco, a vibe so rare,
Takes you to Funky Town, where life’s carefree and fair.

As the night ended, one thing was clear,
This was a night of dancing and cheer.
Leo the Lion, Ernie Dawg, and Kevin Gorilla, a family now,
Blaming It On The Boogie, as they took their final bow.

One last thing before we end this rhyme,
You Can Blame it on The Boogie or this moment in time,
But nothing beats a Disco Night, not even MTV,
Boogie Nights are the best, as you can plainly see.

Thank you to Ernie and Kevin for having fun with this, I hope I did you proudly.
Peace, Love, and Get Down Tonight.

Thank you so much for Visiting, Reading, and leaving your Wonderful Comment. I’m sharing a bit of my humorous side that I haven’t shown much yet. I try to keep this blog focused on honoring God, but I believe God Himself has a sense of humor and wants us to laugh, smile, and enjoy ourselves—as long as we do so respectfully. Ooh that sounds mighty tempting. Maybe I can incorporate the Ed Sullivan show to it 😱😄😂. I might have to work on that. Maybe I can do a different music era theme . Great advice. Thank you . I might have to tag you and have it all Signed, Sealed, Delivered 😁😱😂.

As one born a couple years before you, Willie, I thoroughly enjoyed your trip down memory lane. The atmosphere you created in Studio 54 was reminiscent of the Junior High dances where I learned how NOT to be a wallflower. Gaining the confidence to get my groove on as an 8th grader who was coming of age quicker than an Easy Bake Oven is something I had forgotten until you took me back in time. You had me Ringing My Bell and singing aloud to Sister Sledge’s We Are Family and before I knew it I was holding Tammy M. with two hands on her waist swaying to the music and letting her know in no uncertain terms that she was “Once, Twice, Three Times a Lady” before VP Jones came up and gave us a verbal warning for what he deemed was excessive PDA! 😂 What a good time – thanks for doing everything ‘cept spiking the punch bowl!

Brother, you had me laughing out loud! No spiking the punch bowl here. I stepped a bit out of my comfort zone to bring some WordPress flair to Boogie Wonderland. We’re definitely a family, and what better way to celebrate than by sharing joy, smiles, laughter, the Word of God, and some Good Times together?
Thank you Brother for Reading, Commenting and for joining in on the fun because after all, That’s the Way, I Like It.
God Bless You today and always and if I said it once, I’ll say it again, don’t blame me for this craziness, Blame it On The Boogie.

OMGoodness Willie… you are a human jukebox! I can hear the scratchy, scratchy, scratchy coming next out of your fingers! And yes, Boogie Wonderland was one of my all time favs next to the Village People getting us all out on the dance floor doing the first line dance I ever learned Y-M-C-A. Sorry, Willie, but I can’t stop this feeling anymore, I’ve got to get back out on the perpetual dance floor and practice my A-B-C’s. and 1-2-3’s with all who have the beat!!!

This post was definitely a blast, and I’ve already received requests for similar content in different genres. I’m considering diving into the Hippie movement next, with Motown and the ’50s also suggested. It’s refreshing to step outside the norm every now and then, while always remaining respectful and mindful.
With that in mind, remember: “You and I must make a pact, we must bring salvation back; where there is love, I’ll be there.” As we explore new themes, let’s not forget to enjoy the present moment. So, Everyone Dance like there’s no Tomorrow before the music stops, as DJ Fernando calls it a night. Peace, love, and Dance With Me!

I’m thrilled that this post brought a smile to your face—that was exactly the goal! I wanted to spread some laughs and joy. It was a bit outside my usual style, but with Ernie and Kevin’s encouragement, what started a few weeks ago evolved into this fun throwback. I had to dust off the platforms and bell-bottoms for a brief trip down memory lane and reveal that there’s still a bit of Macho Man in me after all.

Did I just watch a new animated series!! I couldn’t take my eyes of Leo’s large cute head and those flaring Bell-Bottoms !! “It’s the Time to Disco 💃 “ keeps ringing in my head .. that was a barrel of laugh indeed .. but I’m still dancing 💃 (like Elton John’s- I’m still standing) standing ovation 👏 for Leo and his friends more than a trio 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Wow, I’m genuinely touched by your kind words! I’m thrilled that you enjoyed Leo and his friends—it truly means the world to me. I had to “Turn the Beat Around” and embrace a bit of “Thank God it’s Friday and some Weekend Fun and Laughs” for this project. Knowing that you were a Dancing Machine and having a great time makes all the effort worthwhile. Your enthusiasm and support mean so much, and I’m incredibly grateful for your amazing feedback.
Thank you for the standing ovation and for sharing such a wonderful message.

Thank You so much for Reading and commenting. This was definitely a fun post and as I said before, it wasn’t my fault, Blame It On The Boogie. I Feel Love, when it comes to music and although I wouldn’t consider myself a Disco Duck, there are times that I just want to go out and do some Kung-Fu Fighting.
Embracing what’s different is definitely my style, and I strive to excel at it. But if I can bring joy and laughter to someone’s day, then I consider the mission a success and give all the glory to God.

Fun indeed! I have almost all of those songs, in my music collection, of 4000 plus songs. The 70’s and 80’s, had probably the best music, that will last forever, for this 1960’s baby! 😊✌🏾🙏🏽

I completely agree. Music today often focuses on themes of sex, drugs, and violence, whereas back in the day, it was all about peace, love, and dancing. I’ll admit, I had my moment where I Fooled Around And Fell In Love, and fell deeply in love with the music of that era. I Got To Give It Up, to all of you for making this post so enjoyable, and I am not Jive Talkin’.
