Spring Forward

Spring Forward to A New Creation

“Let God have your life; He can do more with it than you can.
 Dwight L. Moody

Recently, I came across a blog post by my dear friend and sister in Christ, T’ at Love, Life, Happiness & More Ministry. The post was titled “Decluttering Your Life.” As I read it, it got me thinking about the importance of decluttering our minds, not just our homes.

The author begins by expressing her love for spring, as it symbolizes a fresh start and an opportunity to declutter various aspects of our lives. T’ then suggests that we start by decluttering our minds.

The author makes an interesting comparison between our minds and our homes. Just as our homes can become filled with clutter, our minds can also become filled with unnecessary thoughts and worries. This mental clutter can weigh us down and prevent us from fully focusing on what is most important in our lives.

Just like we declutter our homes by removing unnecessary items, we should also declutter our minds by letting go of negative thoughts, worries, and distractions. There is no doubt that our minds can become overwhelmed with the demands and expectations of everyday life. By decluttering our minds, we can make room for peace, clarity, and a deeper connection with God.

Colossians 3:2 – New King James Version – (NKJV)
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

The author encouraged her readers to take a few moments each day to declutter their minds. There are many techniques such as meditation, prayer, and self-reflection as ways to clear the clutter and find tranquility. By practicing mindfulness and being mindful of our thoughts and actions, we can begin to create a more peaceful and balanced life.

When we think about and plan a spring cleaning, it takes a lot out of us. It is a daunting task that requires dedicating an entire weekend to going through every nook and cranny of our home. The process can be overwhelming, as we meticulously tackle the closet, dresser drawers, book shelves, mail shelves, kids toy boxes, library, medicine cabinet, pantry, and even sheds and garages.

Spring cleaning is not about simply making room for new junk. It is a conscious effort to let go of the old and unnecessary items that have accumulated over time. It is about decluttering our lives and our minds. It is an opportunity to let go of the past, the things that are too small, not used, not eaten, not worn, or even forgotten.

In the same way that we clean out our physical spaces, spring cleaning is also a time for self-reflection and soul-searching (introspection). It is an opportunity to declutter our minds and souls of all the negative thoughts, emotions, and habits that no longer serve us. It’s about making room for new experiences, growth, and positivity.

Spring cleaning is not just about scrubbing floors and dusting furniture. It is about making positive changes in our lives. It is about letting go of the past, embracing the future, and creating a space that is clean and fresh both inside and out.

2 Corinthians 5:17 and its Connection to Spring Cleaning

One of the very first scriptures in the Bible that I learned to memorize was 2 Corinthians 5:17. It reads, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

On the surface, this verse may not seem to have much to do with Spring Cleaning. However, upon closer examination, we can draw some parallels between the concept of spiritual renewal and that of physical spring cleaning.

Just as Spring Cleaning involves getting rid of the old and outdated to make way for new things, 2 Corinthians 5:17 teaches us about the transformative power of being in Christ. It reminds us that when we accept Jesus into our lives, we undergo a spiritual rebirth. The old, flawed ways of living are left behind, and we become new creations in Christ.

Similar to Spring Cleaning, this spiritual renewal requires us to let go of old mindsets, habits, and baggage that hinder us from growing and thriving. Just as we go through our homes, decluttering and organizing, we too need to declutter our minds and hearts.

This step of spiritual spring cleaning requires self-reflection and soul-searching. We must identify those thought patterns and behaviors that have become outdated or no longer serve us. It involves discarding negative thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that can hold us back from experiencing true freedom in Christ.

Just as Spring Cleaning brings freshness and new life to our physical environments, being in Christ brings about a transformation of our spirits. It fills us with hope, joy, and a sense of purpose. Just as Spring Cleaning brightens our homes, being in Christ brightens our spirits and enables us to live in the fullness of God’s love and grace.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 – New Living Translation – (NLT)
21 It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, 22 and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.

Spring Cleaning: Renewing our Lives

As we bid farewell to the winter months and welcome the fresh energy of spring, it’s a perfect time to engage in a spring cleaning exercise, both in our physical surroundings and within ourselves. This spring cleaning is not just a physical act of discarding unwanted items and reorganizing our living spaces; it is also a spiritual process of letting go of the past, shedding unnecessary burdens, and embracing new beginning.

Letting go of the past

The past often holds onto us tightly, tempting us to dwell on the regrets, failures, and negative memories that weigh us down. However, dwelling on the past only hinders us from moving forward. To truly embrace a fresh start, we must learn to let go of the things of the past that hold us back.

“Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let go at some point in order to move forward.
 C.S. Lewis.

Items no longer needed

Throughout the winter season, we may have accumulated items that no longer serve a purpose in our lives. Whether it’s clothing that no longer fits, furniture that is outdated, or gadgets that are no longer relevant, these items can be put to good use by donating them to those in need. By giving our unused belongings to shelters, the Salvation Army, or our church, we can help others and contribute to the well-being of our community.

One man’s trash, another man’s treasure

An old saying reminds us that one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure. This principle holds true when it comes to serving others. If you’ve never served as a volunteer before, a great way to begin is through donating items you no longer need. Whether it’s clothing, furniture, or even household items, these items can greatly benefit those who are less fortunate.

Cheerful giving

When we give, we should do so with a cheerful heart. Whether it’s donating our time, resources, or even a smile, our acts of kindness have the power to uplift and inspire those around us. By being a cheerful giver, we can create a positive ripple effect that extends far beyond our own actions.

2 Corinthians 9:7 – English Standard Version – (ESV)
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Buried treasures in closets

Some of us may have forgotten the items tucked away in our closets. Whether it’s an old prom dress that no longer fits or a piece of furniture that has seen better days, these items can be valuable to someone else. Instead of keeping them hidden away, why not consider giving them to someone who could benefit from them? By doing so, we can make a positive impact on the lives of others while freeing up space in our own lives.

Accepting ourselves for who we are

As we embark on a spring cleaning journey, it’s important to remember that self-acceptance is crucial for our well-being. We may harbor unrealistic expectations about our bodies or appearance, but it’s important to recognize that our worth is not defined by our physical attributes. Our loved ones love us for who we are, imperfections and all. So, let’s let go of any hope that we will ever return to our senior prom figure and embrace the love we have for ourselves, just as we are.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – English Standard Version – (ESV)
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Spring cleaning in our own lives

Just as the physical act of spring cleaning invigorates our living spaces, we need to engage in a spiritual spring cleaning as well. The season of spring symbolizes new beginnings and growth, and it’s an ideal time to let go of the things that hold us back and embrace the changes that await us.

Fear of starting fresh

Many of us harbor a fear of starting fresh, whether it’s a new job, a new relationship, or a new endeavor. This fear often stems from insecurity and self-doubt. However, it is important to remember that the Lord has began in us, and He has equipped us with His Spirit to overcome any fear or doubt. When we trust in His plan, we can break free from the chains of our past and embrace the new opportunities that await us.

Doubt and anxiety

Doubt and anxiety are two of the enemies of spiritual growth. Yet, they are not Fruits of the Spirit. Instead, they are rooted in our own negativity and resistance to change. By casting our worries onto the Lord and seeking His guidance, we can overcome these obstacles and move forward with faith.

Spring cleaning is not just a physical act of decluttering; it is a spiritual process of letting go of the past, shedding unnecessary burdens, and embracing new beginning. As we spring clean our physical surroundings, let us also spring clean our hearts, minds, and souls. Let us let go of fear, doubt, and anxiety, and embrace the Fruits of the Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Together, we can embark on a journey of renewal and empowerment, allowing the Lord to continue the great work that He has began in us.

Philippians 1:6 – New International Version – (NIV)
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Turn Up the Worship Music, Make It a Family Event, and Sing “All Hail King Jesus”

As you gather your family together, it’s time to turn up the worship music and create a joyful atmosphere. Together, let’s sing “All Hail King Jesus” and let our voices fill the air with praise and adoration. This family event will not only bring us closer to each other but also remind us of the importance of celebrating our faith.

Remember that God Works All Things Together for the Good of those who love Him

While we are in the midst of cleaning out our closets, let’s not forget that God is working all things together for our good. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” This means that even the challenges we face, the mistakes we make, and the struggles we face can be used for God’s divine plan. We can trust that He is working in every circumstance to bring about His perfect will.

Repent, Let Go, and Let God

As we go through the process of cleansing our closets, it is important for us to reflect on our own lives and repent of any sins or mistakes we have made. It’s important to acknowledge our wrongdoing and humbly ask for forgiveness. Through this act of repentance, we can let go of any burdens or guilt that may be holding us back from fully embracing our relationship with God.

Forgive, Ask for Forgiveness, and Seek First His Kingdom

Just as we should offer forgiveness to others, it is crucial that we extend forgiveness to ourselves as well. Remember, forgiveness is a free gift given to us by God. So, let’s forgive others who have wronged us, seek forgiveness from those we have wronged, and prioritize seeking God’s kingdom above all else.

Matthew 6:12-15Common English Bible – (CEB)
12 Forgive us for the ways we have wronged you, just as we also forgive those who have wronged us. 13 And don’t lead us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. 14 “If you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you don’t forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your sins.

Serve, Help Those in Need, and be a Cheerful Giver

As we declutter our closets, let’s also declutter our hearts and lives. Let’s serve others, particularly those in need. Whether it’s volunteering our time or donating our resources, we can find ways to help others and spread God’s love. Additionally, let’s be cheerful givers, not just with our possessions but also with our time and efforts.

Fast and Pray

Fasting is a powerful spiritual practice that allows us to draw closer to God and seek His guidance. Consider setting aside a specific time to fast and pray, asking God to reveal any areas in our lives that need attention. Through fasting and prayer, we can clear our minds and seek His wisdom as we embark on this new journey of transformation.

Let Go of Your Old Self

As we clear out our physical closets, it’s essential to let go of our old selves as well. It’s time to let go of the past, the mistakes we have made, and the baggage we carry. By rejecting our old selves, we can embrace the new creation we are in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Let Go of ALL that is Keeping You from a New Creation in Christ

It’s important for us to let go of all the things that are not fruits of the Holy Spirit. This may include habits, attitudes, or mindsets that are contrary to God’s will. By letting go of these things, we can make space for the new creation that God is calling us to be.

Don’t Put Off Tomorrow What You Can Do Today

Don’t wait until tomorrow to start living the life you have been created for. Today is the day to embrace your God-given purpose and embark on new adventures. Don’t put off your dreams, passions, and aspirations any longer. Start taking action today!

Get a Fresh Start, a New Perspective

Set your mind free and embrace the freshness that comes with a fresh start. Take the opportunity to gain a new perspective on your hopes and dreams. God has a plan for you, and it’s time to step into it.

Attack Those New Hopes, Dreams, and Passions

Now that you have a fresh perspective, it’s time to attack those new hopes, dreams, and passions. Take bold steps of faith and pursue what sets your soul on fire. Don’t allow yourself to be hindered by the fear of failure or doubt. Trust that God has equipped you for greatness and that you can find fulfillment in fulfilling His purpose for your life.

Time is Short

Time is precious, and we shouldn’t waste it on things that don’t matter. Don’t delay any longer in pursuing the dreams and passions that bring you joy. Start today, because tomorrow may be too late.

Isaiah 55:6 – King James Version – (KJV)
Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.

You Are Created for a Purpose

Remember, you are created for a purpose. You have a role to play in God’s kingdom, and He has a plan for each of our lives. Embrace the purpose He has for you and let go of any self-doubts or fears.

Now you are a New Creation in Christ

If you are a Christian, you are now a new creation in Christ. Let that truth wash over you and live in the freedom of knowing that you are a beloved child of God. Let go of the old labels, labels that don’t reflect the new creation you are now.

Pray for the Beginning of the New You

As you embark on this new chapter of your life, pray for the beginning of your new self. Ask God for guidance, strength, and the courage to let go of your old self and embrace the new creation He has in mind for you.

Pray for the Release of the Old You

Release the old you, let go of the past, and embrace the new life that is available to you in Christ. Say goodbye to the burdens and baggage that have weighed you down and pray for the freedom of the new creation.

Let Go and Let God

I’m Willie

Hello and Welcome to my Website.
My name is William Torres, but my family and friends call me Willie. It is a pleasure to be here with you today, and I am excited to share my faith journey with you.

My journey has been amazing and fulfilling as a new Christian. I have seen God work in my life in ways I never could have imagined. I have grown closer to my faith and have seen Him work in my life and the lives of those around me. I am truly blessed to call myself a Christian, and I am excited to continue to grow in my faith.

I believe that I have come a long way in life. Over the years, I have worked hard to become a better man, husband to Frances Torres, and father to our children. I have strived to be a good friend and companion to those I have been fortunate to build relationships with. I have learned to appreciate the small moments of joy and fulfillment that come with every human connection.

I began writing stories that I believe were inspired by the Holy Spirit. These stories are my testimonies about the different trials I have gone through, and how the Lord has helped me to overcome them. Through this process, I’ve discovered that I can forgive those I once vowed to never forgive, and in turn, my relationships with them have been restored. They are now a huge blessing and a special part of my life.

I hope that through my writing I can be a source of encouragement to other people in their faith and relationship with the Lord. I pray that those who read my words will be blessed by the Lord and find strength and comfort in His Word.

To be honest, I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am not perfect, but it is in this place of acceptance that I am able to truly worship a God who is. His infinite love brings me joy, strength, and peace, and I am thankful for the privilege of being able to serve Him.

I have also started a Social Media Ministry on Facebook, which I invite you to visit here. Being Crazy For Christ is a platform where I share my journey of faith, and I am also on YouTube – Willie Torres Jr. and I am excited to see all that God will do through it.

This is my hope, and I’m so thankful for it. I’m thankful for the love of Jesus, and I’m thankful for the chance to grow in Him together with you.
